Vince Runza goes Old School

Vince Runza put up a pretty good post on mASF about the advantages of using NLP in sarges. Most people in the community tend to look down on NLP and pattern languages because it’s either seen as being hokey, too hard to learn, or plain ineffective. But for as much criticism that I have about Speed Seduction, I do believe that there is merit to NLP. Why do I say this? Because I’ve used it before, and it does have an effect on people if done right. The problem is learning to do it right. I think Ross Jeffries, for as much innovation as he’s put into SS, in the long run brings a lot of the misconceptions about NLP upon his system through his rather insecure attitude and horrible teaching methods. The biggest laugh I’ve gotten lately has been from RJ ragging on TD for Tyler’s teaching style being unclear. This coming from one of the worst teachers in the community. RJ has said himself that he teaches based on what’s best for him, not his students, and then he indites TD for basically doing the same thing. Thus is the crux of the issue when it comes to people’s rather low opinion of SS.
But regardless, if one is able to look past the juvenile jerrymandering of its creator, Speed Seduction does have a great deal of merit, and I think Vince explains it ever more eloquently than I could. You can read his thread here.

Returning to Online Dating

Because I spend so much time out of my week either at the office or at home, I’ve decided to start up online dating again. I really do not like online dating, simply because it takes so much time and effort, as opposed to club/bar/street game which is relatively fast and painless. However, I may as well put the time I have doing nothing to good use and try and get me some pussy.
The internet landscape is always changing, and it’s been a while since I’ve done the e-mail seduction thang. If any of you guys out there got any tips or tricks, or know of any cool sites that are wirth a visit, let me know.

My Thoughts on the NYT Article

Okay, I read it, and I got a lot of mixed feelings about it. I thought the author of the piece did a good job trying to appear fair and balanced, but on the whole, the article came off making the entire community and those at it’s head look like pathetic losers or money grubbing opportunists. I don’t know if that’s from the way the author wrote the piece, or if that’s what it ended up being after the editors got their ignorant little hands on it, but that’s the feeling I got after I read it.
A few comments:
First off, the title is HORRIBLE! Just flat out lame. I know that journalists usually don’t have control over the headlines, so my guess is that this was some lame attempt by the editors at the NYTs to burry the article and hope no one reads it. If they actually WANTED people to read the damn thing, they could have easily entiled it ”Secret Society Teaches Seduction” or some other sexy title like that. My guess is the rocket scientists they got running things at the NYTs didn’t take the article seriously, and might even be a bit embarassed they’re printing it.
Second, Mystery does NOT come off looking very good, in my opinion. And this probably touches on what pisses me off about the article the most, which is that the wole community comes off as looking lame. There’s no mistaking the rather ”Politically Correct” female slant on the whole article. Where guys who do this are all virgins or losers who need people to teach them how to talk to girls, and the gurus who teach them are somewhat faking it for a quick buck. The whole reference of Mystery’s sarge with the girl at the Standard was a joke, with her saying ”He seems like a nice guy who was trying too hard.” Riiiiiiiight. Why give so much importance to her words anyway? I thought Herbal’s post about the pick-up was much more revealing about how out of all the guys hitting on her, she gave Mystery her number. No mention of that, was there? Of course not. Yet another reason I hate the New York Times as a paper — they are about pushing their PC female-centric agenda rather than reporting the FACTS. This is the same paper who brought us Jason Blair, after all.
The author is way too hard on himself. He’s an incredibly skilled PUA who gets laid A LOT, and he’s still hung up on his looks. I’ve seen the guy in person, he doesn’t look THAT bad.
Only 1 mention of Tyler Durden. I heard that Tyler’s part in the article was cut for space, but how can you ignore such a driving force in the community so easily? I mean, he’s out there constantly teaching guys how to pick-up women, and in a way that puts him on the cutting edge of what we’re doing. It seems odd that he could be so easily removed from the article.
Juggler’s girlfriend. Don’t know the guy or his girl, but now I guess it’s obvious why he’s left the community. She sounds like a bit of a bitch to me. Fact of the matter is that most girls don’t understand the necessity for something like this community to exist, because they can have sex whenever they want and it’s not in their reality to know the trials most guys go through just to experience the most fundamental act of nature. If this were an article about a group of women teaching other women how to find a man and get them to marry them, would it have come off as sad and pathetic? No. It would have been celebrated as an interesting little ”sowing circle” and I have NO doubt that they would have included web addresses for that, as opposed to this article which conveniently left any mention of the websites in this community out.
The article has no ending. It just ENDS! No wrap up, no final redeeming factor about the community, just the author talking about how he’s no longer an AFC. The thing is, if he REALLY wanted to hammer home how great this community is, how about talking about a few REAL field reports instead of a stupid # close? Too racy for the NYT I suppose. Or maybe the author is just shy. In any event, I don’t feel the article captured ANYTHING about what this community is really about, and rather succummed to some type of journalistic pressure to be too PC.
I know a lot of people in the community are relieved that not too many of the tactics we use were revealed in the article, but at what cost? I guess it’s cool that most AFCs out there won’t be able to track down Fast Seduction.com and find out all about our little ”secret society.” That the article paints us as a rather small and pathetic group of 20, 30, and 40 year old men who are virgins and have exhausted all other avenues with women, so we can remain living ”under the radar” of society’s judgement and attention. But I guess I’m just disappointed that someone who is so involved in the community, who is so talented with these skills, who I respect probably more than anyone out there, would write such a bleek view of what we do. Again, I don’t know what changes happened with the article between leaving the author’s hands and getting printed in the paper. But I do know that if this is a sign of things to come, I would be very worried about how some of my friends in the community are going to be portrayed.

The Ethics of PUA — Who Owns What?

The recent Ross vs. Tyler battle on mASF has brought up a big controversy that has been brewing in the more elite circles lately. This is basically the issue of ACCOUNTABILITY, or who is responsible for the creation of material. This wasn’t such a big deal when everyone was just a bunch of horny losers looking to get laid who’d freely exchange ideas and theories on the topic. But once money came into the picture, it really changed the landscape of the PUA community.
In the beginning, you had Ross and SS. That was pretty much it. Then David D came along, then Mystery with his workshops, then TD, then Swinggcat, now Harmless… the list goes on. And because these are all guys who got their feet wet in the community and developed their own stuff based on the feedback and tactics of others, they are looked at very differently than an outsider who publishes a book or audio course on seduction or dating. Indeed, the paranoia has set in pretty deeply, with fingers pointing and accusations flying over TD stealing other people’s stuff and teaching it as his own, with Ross claiming Swinggcat ”stole” Push-Pull from him, with the DYD camp buckling down tighter than the Skywalker Ranch when making a Star Wars movie for fear stuff might leak out… the list goes on.
But the biggest problem comes from guys NOT making any money off this stuff. There’s been more than a few grumbles from PUAs worldwide over their material getting repackaged and sold by the commercial guys, so now they’re throwing a fit about giving credit where it’s due or just simply not sharing their material anymore, therefore stifling the flow of information.
But when it comes down to it, the whole situation is pretty laughable. People throwing fits and being paranoid about the commercial guys. It reminds me of the US/Japan automobile rivalry in the 80s. That whole ”Buy American” bullshit that circulated around the country, even though American cars were crap. The same thing is going on when Ross says TD is taking other people’s stuff and making slight modifications and observations. Who cares? In the end, the Japanese made better cars because of it. They didn’t INVENT the cars, but they IMPROVED upon them. Did America make the Japanese give them credit for inventing the car? No. No one cares. I look at it like this: If you don’t care about making money off this stuff, then why worry about people stealing your shit? Why worry about recognition? So you can be venerated as a guru by a bunch of lonely guys hoping to get laid? What kind of celebrity is that? If you do want to make money on this stuff, then make your own products so people HAVE to give you credit for using it. Otherwise, shut the fuck up.
Seriously, this whole ”Give credit where credit is due, site your sources” shit is stupid. It’s like a comedian trying to copyright a joke. It’s like people that author’s steal great lines or situations from to write about in their books wanting to be paid for giving them that one little bit of inspiration when the author is the one who did all the work of writing a book. Who cares? In the long run, unless this shit is your lifeblood, like it is for Ross or TD, what do you care if people are teaching it and even making a few bucks? We’re all just guys trying to get laid, right?
In the end, I think it comes down to ego. After all, there’s nothing new under the sun. Everything this community ”comes up with” has already been thought of or existed long before we stumbled onto it. The fact is, most of the best stuff out there comes from WOMEN. If you get a great concept from a girl, are you gonna stop in the middle of a sarge and say ”I’m going intentionally undermine you, which I learned from my ex-girlfriend Mitsy.”? Of course not. That’s gay.
But none the less, the bickering and pettiness continues. I just can’t help but laugh at the comedy of it all. It reminds me so of the stupid office politics I get to partake in everyday. In the end, no one cares who came up with what…
They just want results.

I heard about this story earlier in the week and couldn’t help but find it both funny and a bit disturbing. It seems a Muslim Cleric was sentenced in a Spanish court to be jailed for 15 months for writing a book called ”Women in Islam” which attempts to interperet the Koran when it applies to women. What many are making it out to be, however, is a step-by-step guide on how to beat your wife without leaving any incriminating evidence. Here’s an example of a passage from the book:
”The blows should be concentrated on the hands and feet using a rod that is thin and light so that it does not leave scars or bruises on the body.”
Now, I’m not for beating women, and nothing disgusts me more than guys who do that shit. I am concerned about how this guy who did nothing but WRITE A BOOK get’s jail time, though. That’s like locking up a guy for robbery who writes a book about knocking over Fort Knox, or convicting a guy for rape who writes a book about how to seduce women. After all, the guy didn’t really beat any women himself (at least, that’s not what the charge was). I could see maybe banning the book, but giving the guy jail time? That’s a bit harsh. It is nice to see the women in the Muslim world getting some help though. With dooshbags like this guy teaching religious fanatacs that it’s okay to physically harm them, they need SOME way to send a message. Though I’d rather they dealt with the subject material rather than the author.
You can find deatails about this story on the BBC site.
Who knows? Maybe the guy was just trying to write his version of the Gunwitch method. =)

Knock Me Out With That Double Vision

Now, this is just cool. This is the sort of thing that when I hear it, the geek in me takes over and I begin fantasizing about all the possibilities. It’s the sort of thing that sparks imagination and belief that there’s still magic in the world, that we haven’t discovered everything there is to know about ourselves, and that we are probably still very early on in our evolution as human beings.
Then again, it could very well be another sign of the appocalypse. =)
It seems that Russian scientists are baffled about a 16 year old girl who seems to possess x-ray vision. Natalya Demkina from Saransk possesses a ”dual vision,” which means she is capable of discerning a person’s internal organs without using X-ray or ultrasound. She can actually SEE THROUGH PEOPLE!!!! And so far she’s passed every single medical test that could prove it a hoax. Not only that, but she seems to be able to switch from normal vision to x-ray vision at will. Now that is just too cool! I hope the doctors can figure out how she’s doing it, because I’d love to learn that trick. If this does indeed turn out to be a natural phenomena, it could change the course of human biology and medicine! Think how powerful it would be to have a doctor that could actually diagnose you just by looking inside your body without surgery. Amazing.
Anyway, if you want to check out the full details, you can find it all here.

Devoting Time to Seduction

You know, sometimes something comes along in our lives that makes us very petty and jealous. It’s a human thing to feel, I suppose, but in that case I must be VERY human, because I’ve found myself quite jealous lately.
Since last July, I’d been going out sarging pretty much every night. It was a lot of fun, hitting the clubs, winging with friends, meeting lots and lots of new girls, making mistakes and learning from them. I probably learned more in those 5 months of constant approaching than I did in 4 years of Speed Seduction. The only problem was that I was not able to keep that lifestyle up. Because of my late night outtings to various clubs and bars around LA, I would find myself being perpetually late to work, and sometimes I’d miss work entirely. This not only put me in the doghouse with my boss, but it really put a cramp on my finances. Not only that, but it began to have a negative impact on my health. I got sick in October when I went to Chicago for the DYD seminar/Lounge reunion, and didn’t really recover until December (both my finance and health problems were compounded by a trip to Las Vegas in November that, while extremely fun, ended up making me miss a week of work because it intensified my illness. Having no health care sucks fat cock).
Right before the Christmas hollidays, I found myself not only in danger of going broke, but also in danger of really harming my health permanently. I just couldn’t keep up with the late night partying and the early morning work schedule. When you have a job that requires you to wake up at 5 am and you’re out ’till 3 am partying it up with more than a couple drinks in you, something’s bound to give. I was constantly tired, and I really stopped taking care of a lot of things in my life — my appearance, my appartment, my car, my eating habbits — all suffered from lack of attention on my part.
While I was home for Christmas, even though I bitched and moaned about going home, it really gave me a chance to get my life in order. I caught up on a lot of sleep, began eating better, started taking care of myself, and even got some money from the family for Christmas, so my finances are looking better now (well, I’m at least able to make rent). I knew things had to change before I went back to my parent’s place, which is part of the reason I started this blog.
The thing is, people like Mystery, Tyler, Papa, and Swinggcat don’t have to worry about a lot of this stuff. These guys make a living off of pick-up and seduction. They get PAID to do it. They are able to travel the world, sleep in until 3 pm, and adjust their lives around meeting women. People like me — I’m currently unable to do that. As it is right now, I can’t even go out 4 times a week like most guys. My current schedule has me waking up at 5 am, going to work until 4 pm, getting home at 5 pm, and work at various projects and chores until it’s time to go to bed at 10 pm. If any of you know anything about the bar/club scene, you’ll know that on weekdays things don’t usually get going until 11 pm, so even if I was to go out around 8 or 9, nothing would be happening. When I look at people like Mystery and Swinggcat, I become jealous of the freedom they have to get good at this stuff.
My nights to practice sarging are limited to Friday and Saturday. In my opinion, 2 nights a week just isn’t enough to get good, but unfortuneately, that’s all I can afford. Part of the motivation behind this blog is to suppliment those nights of the week I’m unable to go out. It keeps me thinking about seduction, about my game, about my sticking points and theory. It keeps me motivated to keep practicing and studying, even if I can’t go out 4-5 times a week like I wish I could. My responsibilities just do not permit for that kind of luxury.
I’m currently working on a few projects I’m hoping will allow me to quit my current job and enjoy more success in life that will allow me to work on my skills. Sometimes I wish I was back in college and didn’t have to worry about half this stuff that real life forces upon you, such as paying off student loans, clipping double coupons, and making your bed. I often wonder how other guys out there do this stuff.
I know some people sarge at work, but that’s something I refuse to do (mostly because there are no girls worth sarging where I work). Other guys get home from work, sleep, then wake up and go out sarging then right back to work to repeat the process. I think this is problematic for someone like me, because my job is not my career. My career is actually very hard to break into and requires a lot of work, so in a way it’s like I’m juggling two jobs, only one of which I’m getting paid for. I guess others out there are still students, which gives them a lot of freedom to party and meet girls. I never realized how good I had it in college until I was out.
This is a weird time in my life right now where I’m on the cusp of some dramatic life changes. Where I’m still struggling to make it in the world, and it all seems compounded by my desire to get good with women. All that pent up sexual energy I have is getting to be spread pretty thin across all my activities. It’s getting to the point where I’m content just to hang out with my friends on a weekday and relax as opposed to beating myself up over not meeting any girls. Sometimes I have to realize that this whole ”Pick-Up” thing is just a smaller part of a much bigger picture. Mystery likes to say that there are only three things in life: Health, Wealth, and Relationships. I tend to agree with him. Right now, I’m more focused on my Health and my Wealth, because if you don’t have those two things, no Relationship is going to help you.
Still, despite all that — I really, really wish it was Friday!!!! =)

I can remember when these guys hit the mainstream when I was in college. I remember for the simple reason that my neighbor in the dorm was blasting their fuckin’ CD day and night at full volume. In a way, that soured me towards the group, who I looked at as a flash in the pan punk group who wanted to be Green Day but sang about stupid high school shit like breaking up with their stoner girlfriend and the like.
So I guess I’m surprized that they’ve endured as a group. I know they briefly broke up for a while and went on to do Boxcar Racer, which was a pretty cool little side project. But their latest album has made me a fan. For some reason, the songs on this new release of theirs "Feeling This" are really striking a chord with me. The songs seem a little bit somber, more grown up, and musically more advanced than anything they’d done previously. It’s funny because the songs are really very simple for the most part, but in a way that simplicity makes them more sophisticated (probably because any artist knows that to create something simple AND beautiful is the hardest thing to accomplish).
Admittadely, I’m no music critic. But I do know what I like. And these guys, I like.

Just a quick thought I had after I wrote my post on taboos. I got to thinking about how some of the other seducers and PUAs out there use taboos to pick up women, and I got to thinking about Tyler Durden. For those of you who don’t know, I’m not talking about the Fight Club guy, I’m talking about our favorite little Canadian PUA who’s out there teaching workshops to the masses looking to get laid.
The thing about Tyler (and many other PUAs in the community) is that he can be easily mistaken for a gay man. He’s adopted so many chick mannerisms and “Dandy” qualities, that he just comes off a fem and homosexual. Yet he is incredibly good with picking up women. However, and Tyler will tell you this himself, he often has difficulty with girls flaking on him or leaving after the initial lay. Obviously, this is a part of his game that he’s working on, but coupled with my post on taboos, it got me wondering.
Basically, in our society, homosexuality is a taboo. It’s often frowned upon and unaccepted, and because of this it garners a certain appeal, especially with women, who’s nurturing nature makes them more open to homosexuality. And I think seducers like Tyler and other Dandy’s often play off this in their pick-ups. Not only do the exhibit qualities of homosexual men, but they also exhibit mannerisms and attitudes of women. So in a way, they are appealing to two taboos – that of the female fantasy of seducing a homosexual man, and that of sleeping with another female.
And it apparently works. Tyler does in fact get laid, and he is very good at picking up women. But it’s all in a club atmosphere, which often helps people to give into their desire to shirk taboos. I’m thinking that once those girls get back to their real lives, however – lives where they are judged by their peers, where they have jobs, etc. That the taboos become reinforced and this causes the girls to lose any attraction they may have had for someone like Tyler.
This is interesting for me, because I’m wondering if this is a typical problem of the Dandy. Many androgynous men often appeal to the same taboos, but seem to be able to keep their women around. I’m wondering if that’s because the taboos they seem to be shirking aren’t as obvious. Either way, I’d be curious to hear other people’s thoughts on this topic.

Conclusion to the Ellyn Saga

If any of you are wondering, I did end up visiting Ellyn while I was in DC. I don’t want to go into too much detail about the meeting because it wasn’t very eventful at all. In fact, it was pretty pathetic. Poor Ellyn had really let herself go, and was pushing upwards of 200 pounds (she said she had gained a little weight, but Jesus!). Its funny, because when she used to be attractive, I was willing to put up with her bullshit and mind games — but take away the looks and keep the same attitude, my patience becomes a lot less forgiving!
She tried pulling a few of those mind games with me, but I wasn’t really going for any of them. I just wanted to get the hell out of dodge after about 10 minutes of being with her. I made her pay for everything though, so I got a free diner and a movie out of it. She was being pretty forward with me, but I was quite passive-aggressively apathetic (a-la Adam, the natural =) which only drove her more wild.
It was an eye-opening experience for me, and I’m glad I went through with it. It sort-of made up for all those times she fucked with my head when we were seeing each other.
So I’ll just end the whole fiasco with this: You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you cant take the trailer park out of the girl.
Good riddance.

Wouldn’t you know it? Right after I make the decision to rid myself of television, I see two new promos on HBO for the new season of the Sopranos and a new series called Deadwood, and both look KICK ASS! I’m all jazzed to see them now and pissed that I’m not going to have TV. The Sopranos comes back in March, so hopefully I can get some financial boosts going by then so I can get my TV back by then, though it seems unlikely. I wish I could only order HBO and nothing else, because that’s all I really watch anyways.
If there are any big, burly guys out there like me, check out the character Tony Soprano on the Sopranos. He’s a great example of a "husky" PUA. I might comment more on this in a later blog, because there’s a case study there that is quite interesting…

Sorry for the delay in updates. I just got back into LA late Sunday night, so I’m still adjusting to West Coast time. News Years was pretty uneventful, I spent the whole night with my family celebrating. I got to have a good heart-to-heart with my father New Years Day where we discussed a variety of things, in particular my current financial situation as well as my future plans. It was good to get his perspective on things, but I’m not sure if its ultimately helpful because he really doesn’t understand where I’m coming from on a lot of things, but just to know I have is support is nice.
I’d like to also appologize to all the DC bro’s out there. I thought coming into town that I’d have time to meet up with a few of them and sarge, but alas, it was not meant to be. My family pretty much planned out the entire two weeks for me, so I had very little time or opportunity to get out of the house.
This year is going to be an interesting one, to say the least. Not only do I plan to have lots and lots of sex in 2004, but I plan to be productive and get my life under control as well. I’ve been reading a book called "The Richest Man in Babylon" which was recommended to me by a friend of mine who’s a self-made millionaire. Its a book of parables that teach money management. Its very good and has inspired me to take a few measures with my finances. The biggest step is to limit my expenses, so I’m cancelling not only my satellite TV, but also my phone to save money (whether its my cell phone or home phone, I haven’t decided yet). So the basic plan is to set aside 10% of my income into a savings account, set aside 20% to pay my bills/debts, and have 70% left over to live off of.
I’ve also unveiled a new look for 2004. I’m now sporting a shaved head, along with a reverse goatee that not only makes me look a little dangerous, but also like I’m 10 years older. I’ve been inspired by "Fashion For Fat Guys" to get some new clothes, which I did over the hollidays, so I’m stylin’ now. Swinggcat told me I definitely have a "sleazy hollywood bad-boy" vibe going on, so I guess that’s a good thing. =)
So here’s to starting this New Year off right! Wish me luck, fellas.

Mama Mia

In their continuing quest to torture me while I’m home, my parents dragged me and my brothers out to see the Washington DC production of the hit musical "Mama Mia" at the National Theater today. They first told me of this excursion about 10 minutes after I got off the plane about a week ago. Now, I’m not a big fan of musicals, especially ones that have to do with weddings, so I told them I didn’t particuarly want to see that play. What was their responce?
"You have no choice."
Yep. My parent’s literally TOLD me I had no choice in the matter. And they were right, I didn’t. My mother started laying down the guilt trips on my brothers and I immediately after we expressed our disinterest, eventually forcing us to go.
So we went, and the play was so-so. The story was pretty stupid, the acting sub-par, and there were only a few songs that were any good in my opinion (I was never a big fan of Abba to begin with). However, the thing that surprized me the most was the number of WOMEN at the show! Seriously, there were some really good looking women at the National Theater tonight, and there were TONS of them. Many of the women were their with their girlfriends, and there were very few men there who weren’t with their family or under the age of 40.
I noticed a lot of chicks there who are what I dub "theater whores." These are girls who I used to go after in high school where my excessive need for validation lead me to join the theater club. These are girls who are escapist junkies. They love to go to the theater for the thrill of it — to get caught up in the lights, glamour, fantasy, song, etc. They’re the theater equivalent of the "party girls" that you find in bars, looking for the next high (a-la Tyler’s Post). All you need to do is start talking to them about how great the play is and BOOM! They’re yours, you’ve opened. Quick & easy. And the best part of it is that they are HIGHLY suggestible women, especially since they are into fantasy and escapism.
There are also quite a number of decent looking older women who go to these musicals and plays, all of which desperately need attention. Another thing I love about it is that these "theater whores" are also usually failed or wannabe actresses, who are SO easy to seduce, because they are naturally suggestable.
This got me thinking that once I get back to LA, I might start attending more theater events. LA has a large number of small playhouse productions every weekend where you can go and meet these types of women. Not only that, but at small enough venues, you can even talk to the actresses, which is great because they are attention whores to the fullest and willing to cling to anybody who gives them the least bit of validation. So I’ll be sure to experiment with this even more.
Also, throw in the "tourist factor" with theater events, and you’ve got some really good prospects. In fact, I’m quite jealous of guys in New York right now because they probably have the best "theater whores" in the nation to pick on. Oh well.
I’ll be sure to post field reports of this shit once I’m back to LA and into my old life again.
