Analyze the Player, not the Game

NightBlue put up a pretty interesting post in the Advanced forum of mASF about how people need to pick the style that’s best for them based on the people who invented it.
NightBlue writes:
This is mainly for the people who get confused b/c of the different styles/ methods aspects and need to find and create their own style.Like said, if you want to see the qualities of a method you need to analyze the inventor of the method. To see why it works so good for the guy who came up with it. Then you know why it works and what can work for you. I’ll give some examples.

New Lair Design

In my never ending quest to fritter away my life, I decided to give the lair yet another face lift. One of the biggest criticisms I got from the old design was that it was just too damn hard to read! So I decided to go for a brighter, cheerier Lair that was easier on the eyes.
I’m still in the process of tweaking everything, but this should be pretty much the final look for the site. If you have any suggestions, comments, criticisms, etc, let me know in the comments to this post.
Getting Comfortable
March 10, 2004 by Thundercat

Well, Tyler Durden put up a new post in the Tactics board of mASF which is neither LONG nor CONVOLUTED! (Huzzah!)
It seems TD is getting back to basics, which is nice. I like not having to set aside a good two hours just to read through a post he puts up. His little thing about getting comfortable so you can work is pretty basic, but I think it’s a solid thing most guys should be concerned about.
Tyler Durden writes:
A big mistake I see a lot of guys making is not sitting the girls down or getting them somewhere comfortable where they can work. They’ll often try to game up the girls in areas with people-traffic, or where they’re standing and not leaning against anything. I can’t see this being very effective because the girls aren’t comfortable and neither are you. Also, because you’re standing for so long, it conveys a bit too much interest, just in the sense of “why is this dude who is supposedly the prize standing in this uncomfortable place for so long just to chat me when I haven’t even done anything to convey value to him yet?” (obviously they don’t think this exact line). In every set, I’ll want to get them seated ASAP. I’ll often hit them on a high point of a story and start backing up. I’ll back up onto the seat, and talk louder (like I walk backwards as I talk, just really smooth). Usually they’ll follow because they’re liking the emotions they’re getting from the stories. If they don’t, I motion my hands to wave them over slightly, or tease them to come over. I want to be leaning against a wall where there is no traffic, or preferably seated but the first is fine if there’s no seating around.
Likewise, in loud clubs, if its too loud to go too long, I’ll blurt out “Have you ever been CUBE’ed before? It’s awesome. I ask you five questions and you’ll get back info about yourself that not even your friends knew. It’s awesome, you *have* to see it.” (I oversell it to move them to the couch). Personally I think its lame to offer gimmicks like that without them earning it, but I think its even worse to have to stand there in a uncomfortably loud area, and I just want them seated ASAP. I think its also key that you’re CUBE’ing her to amuse yourself to see the results, rather than to impress her in anyway. So I’ll sit them down and often times I won’t even do it, or I’ll run it and then run backwards on my regular program and continue from there.
I think its interesting that the only difference between you meeting a girl who could even become your girlfriend, or not, is just that you got her logistically comfortable ASAP, so that her ASD wouldn’t go up or anything due to you gaming her so extensively in an uncomfortable location.
Of course, just moving them around the room and venue changing is great also. I do seated preferably though, because I can work in closer and phase shift, or just build comfort effectively in a location where I can really work.
Anyway, I know this sounds subtle, but it really makes the difference between things going well and not going anywhere at all.

E-Mail Rules

So Formhandle has chimed in on some “E-Mail Rules” that he goes by when seducing online.
Formhandle writes:
Many of you have been able to take advantage of the e-mail rules I’ve set out, they’re simply the most efficient and dependable means to get a chick responding back so that the mail goal can be achieved – setting up a meet to run actual real game. Here is some more elaboration on why a lot of guys can’t get past e-mail with a chick:
These kind of guys ask too many questions or bring up too many points for the chick to be able to focus in on. What ends up happening is she only responds to a single, perhaps 2 maximum points, and they are rarely the points the guy is REALLY interested in. The reason for that is it allows her to maintain control, and forces the guy to ask some of the same questions again, defaulting him to beta. The other reason is – the hotter the chick, the more preoccupied she is in the REAL world and the less she cares about e-mail and answering every single point in an e-mail, so she chooses the fastest and easiest points to reply to and feels that she’s “replied” to the mail completely.
Formhandle goes on to elaborate…

Well, it seems the Internet Gods are smiling upon me today. Perhaps it’s that virgin I sacrificed the other night, but regardless, it seems the Lair is up and running at full speed again, which warms the cuckholds of my cold, black heart. I never realized how quickly my work day went by because of this blog! Needless to say, the last few days have been hell at work, lol.
Anyway, looks like I’ll be updating regularly again. Maybe I’ll do some updates this weekend just to make up for lost time.
A few notes:
–I’m getting ready to redesign the blog to make it easier to read and more pleasent to look at, so look forward to seeing the Lair get a face lift in the coming weeks.
–Thanks to everyone who’s signed up to recieve the Sandbox, the Lair’s first newsletter! I’m looking at it as a bit of a grand experiment, but I’m talking to a few people about taking part in it’s initial mailing so there’s some good content in there. These newsletters won’t be archived, so best sign up now!
–There’s another interview on the way! Swinggcat’s interview went over so well, I’ve decided to make it a regular feature here on the blog. The next interview will be VERY good, with someone who’s been in the community a long time and proven he’s got some mad skills with the ladies. In fact, I just talked with this guy on Monday and he was driving home from a first-meet with a girl that turned into sex. Look for a lot of good seduction tactics from this upcoming chit-chat with the Thundercat!
–I’ve been talking to a lot of amazing Pick-Up artists who are following Tyler Durden’s lead. It seems that I now have 4 MAJOR Pick-Up Artists who have agreed to write exclusive articles for the Lair! I’m hoping to do one article a week from each, and it will be content EXCLUSIVE to the blog, so you won’t find it posted on mASF or anything like that. I’m hoping to get these going towards the end of the month, but it may not start until April.
All in all, it’s an interesting time for this website. I seem to be getting a lot of traffic lately, and it’s not just from people in the community. Also, if anyone out there visiting this site likes it and hosts their own website, please feel free to link me! I’ll return the favor. =)
So there you go, that’s the latest downlow. Now back to updating…

Okay, it turns out the screwy thing that’s been messing up the Lair lately has to do with a DNS problem with GoDaddy. I was on the phone with tech support all day and they told me they’d have the problem fixed in 24-48 hours. So hopefully, the Lair will be up and running at full steam come Friday.
Until then, I’m not going to be doing too many updates, just because most people might not be able to read them. Sorry for the mess, but it’s something that’s out of my hands.
The Sandbox

Okay, I’ve instituted a new feature on the blog. If you look to the top of the right column, you’ll find a sign-up for “The Sandbox,” which is a monthly newsletter I’ll be doing. It’s 100% free, and you’re not forced to sign up for it (like some other sites do), so you don’t have to subscribe if you don’t want to. What I’m finding is that I may not want to share some of my more personal field reports on the blog, but I might be willing to do so in a newsletter of sorts.
I’d also like to make it like a Cliff’s List type thing where anyone with something GOOD to say can write in and get published, so if you have an article or ideas you’d like to share, email me at ThundercatPUA@yahoo.com with the text IN THE E-MAIL! No attachments please.
I also plan on using the newsletter as a way to keep everyone updated of new products and calendar of events relating to PUA, Seminars, Workshops, Gatherings, and Events. I might even throw in a tasty bit of gossip or two to boot. =)
So if you haven’t already signed up, what are you wating for?
Some Odd Musings

I went out the other night and approached a two set in a pretty nice bar/restaurant off of Sunset. It was an older woman and a younger girl. Both were attractive. The younger one was typical low self esteem punk rock girl with the dyed hair, vintage t-shirt, wallet chain, etc. The older one was your typical aging party girl who’s still on the prowl. I open the younger one first and end up running a great set. It was totally on with both of them… then I find out their mother and daughter.
This was a strange shock to me, because both were flirting pretty heavily and into set. I was more in with the mother (who looked like a bigger slut — typical low IQ and big breasts). I end up number closing them both. It was a wierd situation, especially since it looked like the daughter was all fucked up self-esteem wise and the mother looked like she was trying to be the daughter’s “cool best friend.” I don’t know where I’ll go with it, but am I the only one who finds this strange? Guess my midwestern ideals just aren’t up to LA mores yet, but where I’m from, most daughters try to get AWAY from their mothers to party.
The Sopranos — The Art of Mob PUA

I know it’s a bit off topic, but I’m a huge Soprano’s fan, and it is my blog, so I’ll talk about it if I want! =P
I got a chance to see the season premier of the Sopranos on HBO this Sunday, and it was not a disappointment. It seems a lot of stuff got set up that’s gonna play out in very interesting ways throughout the course of the season. The rivalry between Chris and Pauly. The mobsters that are getting out of jail. The tension between Carmella and Tony. And the relationship between Dr. Melphi and Tony — all seem quite tumultuous at best.
Anyway, I have a special fascination with this show because i kind-of look like James Gandalfini, who plays Tony Soprano. I’m part Italian, and have that pudgy, bear-like “Soprano” look going for me. But I’ve always been fascinated how Tony gets so many women on that show. Sure, a lot of it has to do with his power as a mob boss, but I think another aspect of it is how he goes after what he wants, his strong belief in his ability to get it, his dogged persistence, and that hint of violence that is always under teh surface that so many women seem to find attractive. It’s an interesting analysis of how a guy who’s not that good looking might be able to get pussy. I have to admit, I’ve gotten far with women when I’ve taken on similar frames…
Regardless, I’ll be looking forward to watching the rest of the season. Deadwood looks kick-ass too! And the season finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm looks awesome. All you HBO junkies, use this thread to geek out with your fandom!!! =)
A Night of Mystery…
March 8, 2004 by Thundercat
So I had a rather long night out with Mystery, Roadking, and Herbal (of Austin Lair and now Project Hollywood fame) on Friday. Needless to say, it had a lot to do with sarging. Mystery, Herbal, and I had dinner at the Rainbow Room on Sunset and ended up seeing Bill Mahr there. For those of you who don’t know who that is, Bill Mahr is the host of shows like Politically Incorrect and the more current Real Time with Bill Mahr on HBO. I had heard about this guy’s prowess with women before, but I had not seen it with my own eyes until that night. Needless to say, Bill Mahr is a fucking pimp! The guy rolls with some incredibly hot chicks, and he also gets approached by them reguarly. Sure, his fame has something to do with it, but his frame is so strong that I can see how he sucks the chicks into it. Maybe he’s seen the Palo Alto videos? Who knows…
Anyway, we were all feeling pretty fiesty that night, so I talked Mystery into going to a strip club so he could show us a little of his Stripper Game. Man, I wasn’t disappointed. Mystery is hands down the best I’ve ever seen with girls in a strip club. And the club we went to was a definite hard one to pick up in (ie, the girls are all into hard core “gotta make money” mode).
The highlight of the night was seeing Mystery pick-up two incredibly hot porno stars that were at the club. These girls weren’t there to strip, mind you. One of them was there with her boyfriend, and the other tagged along because I guess they needed to get to know each other before working in a scene together the following day. They were both 10s on the looks scale. Not to bright, but incredibly sexy. The minute Mystery came within view of them, he had them eating out of the palm of his hand, and ended up number closing both of them.
It was really amazing to watch him work these girls. Most guys might have been inclined to chat them up, but Mystery really put his neg theory to work and threw out some old school harsh negs at both girls. For a minute, I was afraid he was gonna lose them, but low and behold the girls started qualifying themselves to him! And just at the point where it looked like the set was gonna blow out, Mystery switches gears and starts demonstrating higher value with his magic tricks, and before long, both girls are totally into him. They ended up getting pulled onto stage and both did a lesbian strip show for free. But afterwards, they actually tracked ME down so I could lead them back to Mystery, who proceeded to seduce both of them (even the one who’s boyfriend was in the club with them).
To top things off, Jake Busey, some of the infamous actor Gary Busey, who’s appeared in major movies (Contact, Starship Troopers, etc) ended up coming up to Mystery and chatting him up for a bit. I also got to demonstrate my “Homemade Porno” routine for Herbal, who seemed to really like it.
All in all, it was a fun night. I’d break down the analysis of what Mystery did more, but I think it deserves it’s own post, which I’ll probably get to when the site stops acting so screwy.

Oy vey. It’s times like these I really hate computers. For some reason something is all out of whack and the Lair isn’t updating the way it should be. I’m working on getting things fixed right now, and when I do expect some big changes on the way. I’ll see if I can update when I can, but this week may turn out to be a “troubleshooting” event for the site with little in the way of good content. We’ll have to see how it goes. Hopefully I can get everything worked out by Wednesday so the week won’t be a total waste.

My Dinner with Orion
March 5, 2004 by Thundercat
So last night I met up with the PUA community’s biggest mainsay, the one and only ORION. Most people in the community will recognize the name, but for those of you who don’t, just go out and buy almost any product from Double Your Dating and SS and chances are you’ll hear him on there. Orion has been going strong in the community for nearly 10 years now, and has been in the inner circle of big guys like David DeAngelo and other gurus.
I first met Orion back in October when I was at the Chicago DYD seminar. I remember he was rather stand-offish when I originally tried to contact him, but once he realized I was a member of Mystery’s Lounge and good friends with Papa and Tyler Durden, he quickly warmed up. It was kind-of wierd to meet the guy, because I’d spent years listening to audio of him espousing pick-up theory on various home study courses. I guess it’s the equivalent of meeting a B-movie star, or an actor from TV who’s name you can’t remember but who’s face is instantly recognizable. It’s funny, because he’s exactly how he is on the products you hear and see him on as he is in person — a funny, good hearted guy with a genuine excitement for pretty much everything he does. Orion has a great energy about him, and is a genuine good guy to know.
In a lot of ways, Orion was an innovator in the seduction comunity, especially when it comes to the use of palm reading and handwriting analysis, as demonstrated by his Magical Connections videos. When I taught alongside him in the live in-field RSD workshops in Chicago, I was impressed with the sheer zeal with which he attacks the game. I’m often reminded of driving through downtown Chicago in a cab as Orion leaped over me in the backseat, stuck his head out the window of the moving car, and actually tried to sarge a girl walking on the sidewalk as we drived by. If that doesn’t illustrate this guy’s passion for picking up women, I don’t know what does. =)
Anyway, I met up with Orion and my buddy NuAje at the Grove and had a nice dinner (NuAje, I still owe you $20!). During that time, we talked about a lot of stuff. Orion was in town to meet up with his LA girlfriend, and seems to be getting more and more into the the fetish scene, which he says is easy to pick up in due to the easily suggestible girls who frequent it. He especially likes Goth clubs, because the girls are usually more open to being adventurous.
I asked him about Kamal, his partner in the Magical Connection videos, and he said they’re still friends, though he hasn’t talked to him in a while. Speaking of friends, we also talked about the David DeAngelo team-up with Tyler Durden and Real Social Dynamics where TD is now teaching the official DYD workshops. Orion expressed some disappointment at being pushed out of the in-field training position that was originally his. He talked about how he introduced David D to Papa and Tyler, and how he seems to have been cut out by those he helped champion. But he seems confident in Tyler’s abilities as a Pick-Up Artist and a Teacher, and knows he’ll do well no matter what.
All in all, it was an interesting night and it was fun to see Orion again. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing great things from him in the future.
