Confidence In A Bottle…

Wow, you just gotta love science.  It used to be you’d need 4-5 beers to feel confident enough to talk to women.  Now all you’ll need is a puff of nose spray.

DOCS have invented a spray which cures shyness — by being squirted up the NOSE.

The all conk-quering spray was developed after medics discovered a chemical that stops people feeling bashful, it emerged yesterday.

The product — set to be a hit with jittery Brits — means sensitive types could have a quick squirt before nerve-racking events such as public speaking.

And scores of shy men would use it to boost their confidence to chat up women.

The spray harnesses the powers of a feel-good hormone called oxytocin, which is already known to promote an air of calm.

It is produced naturally by the body when a person is in love and it also induces labour in pregnant women. The spray contains a synthetic version, created in a laboratory after researchers at the University of Zurich spent almost a decade working on it.

The team decided to test its effects on adults who found it difficult to socialise, trying it out on 70 people for a month.

Team leader Dr Markus Heinrichs said they were given the spray half an hour before they were put in a difficult social situation.

It changed their behaviour “dramatically” with every person stopping feeling anxious and engaging better with others in the group.

Large-scale trials of the spray are now planned. If they prove successful, it could go on sale in the next five years. The study was announced at the World Congress of Neuroscience in Melbourne.

Dr Heinrichs said the hormone had an effect on the part of the brain that controls fear response.

Suspending it in a nasal spray is the most effective method of delivery because it was absorbed into the body more rapidly, he said.

Oxytocin is the chemical that is released in your brain after you orgasm, so imagine having that feeling whenever you want it, just by using a nose spray.  This stuff could be bigger than cocaine!  That, and it could revolutionalize the pick-up community.  Imagine every poor AFC out there now being the most confident guy you’ve ever seen talking to women.  How crazy is that?

I can’t wait to see when this thing comes out in the states.

Hey – there is already a drug for this called Inderal. Professional musicians have been using it for years to calm nerves yet still remain sharp for auditions etc. Quite a controversy in that community similar to steroids for athletes. And hey, it works! Someone should have a Better Pickup Through Chemistry blog :)

I have seen something simular like this on Discovery Channel. It was about a pill which could make you instant drunk and sober. Unfortunately it only gives you the negative effects of being drunk: less coordination, headache, etc. It doesn’t get you more talkive like when taking alcohol.
