Mystery “The Pick Up Artist” VH1 Show Update

Okay, so there’s a few more details about Mystery’s VH1 show circulating around.  It looks like the show is going to be called "The Pick Up Artist,"  And it’s premiering August 8th on VH1.  It looks like they have 8 or 9 episodes done.

The Pickup Artist will features our own Mystery (of course) as a seduction guru, and co-stars Venusian Arts Co-Founder Matador as well as master instructor J-Dog.

In the eight-part series, they do what Venusian Arts does best: transform a bunch of "nice guys with likable, quirky personalities who have trouble asking women out"…

So there you go, that stuff is confirmed.  We now have a name, premise, and co-stars.  =)  I’ve never met Matador, but I know J-Dog very well, and I’m excited to see him involved in this.  J-Dog is a great guy.  Though he used to be almost entirely Speed-Seduction based, so I guess he’s made the full transition to Mystery Method.

Nice ! Can’t wait to see it :D

For those who don’t know it yet.. Juggler and Jonnie Saviour also made a serie like this before. I think it was broadcast on the BBC. It’s named ‘seduction school’ and you can find the episodes on tube here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DYn4-h3Cnk&mode=related&search=

Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I think this is going to ***k up all the seduction community, with everyone knowing the techniques they’re not going to work anymore.. remember the PUA’s #1 rule.. be different in an interesting way

This isn’t the same show, is it…

I actually auditioned for this show and made it to the third round of casting…I guess I wasn’t ‘geeky’ enough…as the original flyer said. In any event, I think it should be a good show…I was looking forward to flying out to LA for the week-long test and tryout…but they told me I was the next one down on the list. Dah well…guess I’ll have to wait til they pick the next batch of ‘geeks!’

  7. Mig says:

What makes the mystery method good in my opinion, is that it hasn’t hit mainstream yet and not everyone knows about it (other than it being good material). Him going full mainstream is not helping the people who study his teachings, but merely himself in a $$ making way. I totally agree with you marcellus.

  8. Rob says:

Mystery is a sell out end of story its all about the $$$$$ he will only attract more newbies and everyone who practiced the Mystery method will move on to practice a different style of pick up, women will catch on to the community and its tactics like fire and the material will be equivalent to pick up lines. Mystery is going to destroy himself and he doesnt even realize it or maybe he does who knows.

  9. LuciferMorningstar says:

don’t see how this will hurt us; in fact its great since it will bring more guys (and perhaps girls) into the community.

so what if women see the mehod in action? Do you tink they will actually understand how it works?

So what if guys watch the show and start imitating the shit they see? Do you think they will be able to pull it off the way we can just by watching the series?

For the record, the mystery method is not my favorite – i’m very much from the Juggler charm school.

Having said that, i respect Mystery. And i believe he has every right to pursue the fame and wealth that he desires.

  10. Thomas Campbell says:

all of you guys that are scared of secrets being revealed because of this show, news flash…your pussy’s! and i’ll say that straight up, because even if people find out about all this pick up propaganda, it doesn’t matter. being a cool and attractive person, to guys and girls won’t change, mystery doesn’t just teach you how to get your dick wet, he teaches you to be appealing to anyone period! and just because people might learn about this whole pick up thing doesn’t mean that the laws of attraction won’t still apply. don’t be stupid, focus on what your doing, not what mystery’s doing. i personally can’t wait to see the show.

  11. mark Hoppis says:

The AFC Federation has summoned Mystery to the Grand court to be put to the question and possibly indited for espionage and sedition charges.

Thundercat will be present and dressed in a black robe and a white wig, and be armed with a gavel.

If convicted of the charges laid forth against him, Mystery could be sentenced to teaching free bootcamps across the world for the period of 12 months and not one day more or less, or be forced to create a new seduction method that involves f-closing straight men.

  13. Katya says:

I’m a girl reading Neil Strauss’ book, because a friend of mine is kind of obsessed with the PUA community. So far, it seems kind of like the male version of ‘The Rules’ (totally different bio-evolutionary underpinnings, but same idea, a rigid set of rules you apply to attract the opposite sex).

I totally know I’m in enemy camp here but just wanted to submit two cents.

LuciferMorningstar: I really think you’re underestimating women here; yes, naturally women will understand these tactics, if they’re widely circulated. If you are intimating that women will ALWAYS respond in the anticipated manner, even if they know of these tactics, you are quite wrong.

Of course, there is an exception. Stupid women are targets that have and always will respond to these tactics, and are, in my opinion, the type of women most represented in the ‘The Game’ (of course, most of the story takes place in LA, so it’s somewhat of a self-selecting pool…) Some women want and need to be led down a path. Take someone without serious mental substance/direction, and add to that the female desire to ‘depend’ on someone. Perfect target.

Can these tactics pull you an ugly/dumb girl? Sure. A pretty/dumb girl? Yes. An ugly/smart girl? Maybe if she’s really drunk. But it will never pull the best kind of woman: pretty, intelligent, and self-assured.

Of course, I doubt that’s what this community is after. It’s a somewhat self-sustaining perspective, when you think about it. If you bang a lot of girls, but they’re all low-hanging fruit (strippers, Hooters girls, etc.), you’re getting a lot of validation. But is it the kind of validation you want? There’s something very self-limiting about the equilibrium established here.

I hate to say this about Mystery because I know he’s been through some rough times, but having seen him on TV: worthwhile girls can smell that passive-aggressive “I’m-going-to-find-a-way-to-bang-you” attitude from a mile away. Huge turn-off.

Anyway, captured the flag, running back to base :)

  14. Seer says:

First of all, Katya, you win a lot of points for taking the time to read “The Game,” and you are obviously an intelligent, thoughtful woman. Style talks of how women, upon learning of the Mystery method, will claim it will never work on them. And of course it does anyway, despite their awareness of it. That’s become a running joke in the PUA community.
Women will automatically respond to a man who’s warm, confident and playful — a man who dresses with flair, gets along with her friends and indicates he could protect her and her children. It’s ancient biology, and no different than a man responding to a provocatively dressed woman. I won’t get any less turned on by a woman who wears her clothes and make up well, just because I’m told she did it on purpose.
At its core, the Mystery method isn’t about learning canned routines, it’s about improving social skills. You become a more seductive man by first becoming someone whom people, not just women, want to be around. It’s time to chuck the double standard that it’s OK for women to read about how to reel in a man, but it’s crass if men consciously improve their mating skills.
And enough with the alarmism, dudes. To get truly good at the method requires work and balls. And commitment. Charming your way into a group of beautiful women will never be easy, and will always prove too daunting to many guys. Reading about it or watching it on TV is one thing; actually doing it in the field is quite another.
The biggest potential problem is the show will inspire swarms of half-assers to approach women with the same opinion openers and negs. I suspect most of them won’t bother to learn what to say or do beyond the first two minutes of conversation. But it might require artists to work harder at distinguishing themselves from the pack.
My final word: Get used to it. If you were Mystery, would you forgo big money and national exposure of your product just to keep the competition easier for a group of strangers? Probably not.

  15. Sarah says:

I too am a female that read “The Game.” (You guys really need to get a better security system here :) …) I loved it and actually thought, “wow–this would totally work on me.” However, I say it would “work” in the sense that I would be intereseted and let him buy me a drink–not to sleeping with him. Even after reading the book, I still think that (of course not if they use the “best friends” test :) ). I am a very intelligent, pretty, and funny as hell girl who completely enjoys meeting my equal. A man that can banter with me, entertain me, and have confidence is great. I think men who at least do the mystery method (which admittedly I only know a few things about) challenge me to come up with comebacks to their negs–alas many have crumbled at my sharp tongue, but the ones who don’t go off sniveling are worth getting to know.
Katya is correct though it is the male version of the rules. Thus, men should be wary of supplanting who they are as an individual with an “act” to achieve the goal of a one night stand (women do the rules to get engaged). It won’t work for the long run… Anyway, keep up the good work guys :) I am very excited about the new show…

  16. Seer says:

Well Sarah, it’s puzzling to me why most women assume that if a man is trying to learn how to be more effective in meeting women, his ultimate aim is one-night stands. Personally, I don’t care for one-nighters because the first time two people have sex, they invariably must learn each others’ bodies and what each other likes. It’s not until subsequent meetings that they can truly let the passion and energy flow spontaneously. But that’s a topic for another time.

Keep in mind that the Mystery method is geared largely to dealing with groups, typically found in high-energy settings such as nightclubs. There are unique challenges to groups, such as the self-appointed cockblock fending off men. Mystery offers some pieces to the great mating puzzle, but there are many other teachers with awesome advice, including Thundercat with his rapport-building.

Btw, no self-respecting seduction artist would ever buy a woman a drink unless she earned it. A true artist would make the encounter feel so real and buoyant and enjoyable that all you’d be thinking is: “Where is the man going to lead me next?”

  17. Sarah says:

    Seer–enjoyed the comments.

    First- I never got a drink I didn’t “earn” (I am that entertaining :) ).

Second- I wasn’t making a blanket assumption that all PUAs want a one-night stand. The same way all women who read the rules to gain self respect and discipline only goal is marriage. In turn, the terms utilzied by your society do conotate a sexual end goal (i.e. seduction artist).
Nonetheless, I guess my final note was more of a “use your powers for good” kind of comment then critizing anyone.

After I made my post I realized I kind of skipped parts of my thought process. My point was I enjoyed the concept of men trying to be more effective in meeting women. Also, my other point was you don’t have to be a “stupid female” to be intrigued by men who use the concepts. If a man could do a handwriting analysis on me, then I think cool that guy has an entertaining skill. More importantly, if a man goes through all of the concepts just to pick me up, I think wow he is a pretty clever man.
Therefore, as a pretty, fun, and intelligent woman, I say sarge away :)

  18. Katya says:

Sarah! No need to explain yourself to ‘Seer.’ I think I’m going to make a T-Shirt that says: “Girls, Please Ignore The Neg.”

Seer…Scott Olympian….Style? It’s funny, I also choose a nom de guerre that begins with a ‘K,’ because my real name begins with K. It’s something that I see a lot of…and something that I don’t think varies across sex. Just good ol’ human wiring.

But Seer/Style, besides the overly-positive comment at the beginning of your reply to me that betrays you, I did have to point out this gem of an example:

Your post: “Well Sarah, it’s puzzling to me why most women assume that if a man is trying to learn how to be more effective in meeting women, his ultimate aim is one-night stands. Personally, I don’t care for one-nighters because the first time two people have sex, they invariably must learn each others’ bodies and what each other likes. It’s not until subsequent meetings that they can truly let the passion and energy flow spontaneously. But that’s a topic for another time.”

Page 372 (which I just got to today): “I’ve never been a fan of one-night stands. Once you’ve gotten that close to someone, why throw it away afterward? I’m more a fan of ten-night stands: ten nights of great sex, each one getting steamier, wilder, and more experimental as two people grow more comfortable together and learn what turns each other on.”

Coincidence? Maybe. But I’m not often wrong. So interesting how we choose to represent ourselves. Fascinating, really. ‘Style’ exhibits, while ‘Seer’ hovers, unidentifiable, watchful, observing.

Or so he thinks. I had a cat once that used to hide behind the curtains, and because he couldn’t see me, he thought I couldn’t see him. But you couldn’t miss those little paws poking out from beneath the trim.

  19. Too Hard to Get says:

Wow, it’s a sad place we live in when it’s OK to manipulate and play on people’s weak character and to be dumb enough to pay to learn it when you don’t have enough self confidence to treat women like they are human. If that’s how it really is, go out and buy a blow up doll because the women you pick up aren’t going to be worth more than that to you anyway.

I met the man of “Mystery” and can say that I could see deep down a nerdy guy that actually wanted to be himself but he was too scared of being rejected for who he really was – a nerdy guy (I actually love nerdy guys). I must say his pathetic and rude behavior wasn’t alluring, it’s quite a foul play and wreaks of the playground. (Why don’t you just call me names and pull my hair – I actually might respond to that). He couldn’t get past a phone call with me, his conversation skills are somewhat lacking and when challenged he hung up the phone because he couldn’t think of anything more cool I guess. Didn’t stop him from calling me back on several occasions after that – didn’t get him anywhere though but laughed at big time. Slick! Best of luck to your shallow and empty games “Mystery” and the heard.

  20. Mark says:

why would you assume seer is style, i.e. neil strauss? that guy is ridiculously busy these days. his email is manofstyle@gmail.com (it’s in the book) if you want to say something to him. frankly, as a man, this book changed my life. wit, confidence, and intelligence really can trump average looks.

  21. Katya says:

The funny part about the mPUAs, or what I always found funny, was the fact that they were completely tethered to their computers. Chat rooms, lounges, etc. were their lifeblood…and their business. This community was started online; is propagated online; and hopefully, will die online (I’m not saying some of the tenets aren’t productive, just the concomitant misogyny isn’t worth it).

But the general point remains; I’m sure there are plenty of upper-levels in the community reading these posts right now. Again, self-selecting pool; the people that initally feel they need to adopt these techniques aren’t exactly the people you’d initially see on the football field or dating supermodels. They’re the type of people that sit in chat rooms talking about it, the type of person that checks comments and posts, the type of person that stays awake thinking about these things at night, can’t get to sleep, and then gets up and reads thundercatseductionlair. Don’t care how busy any of these people are, they are chained to the e-community. I guarantee you they roam the boards.

  22. Costanza says:

Does anyone know if the show that is being advertised on VH1 is the same as “The Pick Up Artist” on Podshow.

    http://thepickupartist.podshow.com

I watched the Podshow one and it was pretty funny but not real informative and I didn’t see Mystery.

Does anyone know what the deal is with these two shows?

  23. RedPriest says:

    Hi Katya,

I think you are right that most women will understand and can spot these tactics in the field. Women, in general, have good eyes for social manipulation. I even think women knowing about these techniques will affect the sarge. However, I think most of them will still work, the same way as you can find yourself doing things you were talked into, don’t you?

I have to disagree with that it works less with intelligent women. In my experience, the older (therefore more serious) and more intelligent a girl is, the less she is attracted to looks and money. So while most 16 year old girls in the club go mainly for the looks, a 23 year old who just graduated from university will much rather go for the guy who is interesting, intelligent, and socially well-adjusted. And they will also go for a guy who provides a great challenge for them in social skills, which “should be” their domain. Much like the way most guys would fall for a HB programmer or a girl who can repair their cars. So I would say really intelligent girls can be better manipulated socially than others.

    Regards,
    RedPriest

  24. Fat Tony says:

“But the general point remains; I’m sure there are plenty of upper-levels in the community reading these posts right now.”

Yeah! Mr./Miss Semicolon! “concomitant misogyny” I’m sure I heard many PUAs and Pick-Up gurus profess that they love women, all of them.

Katya, I believe you’re projecting because you seem to know a lot about the community. Maybe your post was a personal memoir.

Keyboard Jockey is the term you might be looking for I believe.

Some guys prefer the online game over the reality one – like Dave M.

The internet is actually a more productive way to share ideals and informations than meeting in reality or talking on the phone since the community is global.

    Costanza,

“The PickUp Artist” on Podshow is an example of what not to do. The episode I watched reinforced the old belief that looks matter, while average guys take what they can get. This show has absolutely nothing to do with Mystery’s show.

  25. Lisa says:

I’m a female and enjoy the show.
CONFIDENCE is key to “attraction” of all sorts, not just sexual. Watch a person “work” a room, with both males and females of all ages. (Key to most successful business people.) Those who have it, have it, and if you have IT, you know what I’m talking about.
It’s NOT a bad thing, it can just be used for good OR bad. I could show Mr. Mystery a fine-tuned female version of his methods. NOT just sexual but CHARMING people of all ages. JUST REMEMBER TO BE SINCERE and not hurt people.

Bottom line; It’s fun watching the boys (the three leaders) work their magic. Have fun guys!! Love the relaxed body language!!
    KEY # 1 …
Hummm.. Maybe *I* should write a book…. LOL.

  27. Phat Mike says:

Hey I read this book purely by chance but couldnt put it or the game down. I have had plenty of luck with the ladies I have been with over sixty women before I read this book, but I liked the fact that mystery claims to not be so much as an inventor just that he analyzed and broke it down I saw in my past how I used much of this material already but since I read this I see where I took shortcuts and paid for it and there is alot of material I have incorporated to my wings dismay at first that worked like a charm. The women who guessing this might see through a robot but the fact of the matter if you think there is nothing to be learned from this book than I say to “Anyone to smart to learn is the worst kind of dumbass.” The openers and the negs help tremendously. I am fortunate to have one of the best wings anyone could ask for. And I could care less if I only sleep with one more girl for the rest of my life, but with the knowledge I have obtained I wont have to worry about blowing it Mrs. Right because of an “off night.” Thank you Mystery and Thank you Syle. Gotta go bout to play play a little game I like to call ouch ouch your on my hair!

  28. Paradox says:

As time goes by things change. That includes the art of picking up women. For those who have been in the community. Its been around well over 20 years. Maybe not in such a way to were the media is covering its every aspect. But to the point where ppl learn thru word of mouth. Most women refuse to acknowledge the fact you played solid game on them. Cause then they would agree that you could trully have whatever you desired. Women still believe they hold the upper hand over every man in the bedroom. Which as time continues to pass these things continue to change. Yes I agree Mystery is unearthing our community. Making it known to many people. But at the same time he is offering a hand out to others who have no knowledge thats this community ever existed. Maybe material will get overused. But by the time it has occured they will have already developed new game.. Which you should have branched off by that time anyways to where you arent using the same lines. Well quite the rant. To sum it up. I think that both Mystery and Style have helped the community and many people who never knew it existed until they came to the media. And Im hoping through this many people decide to redefine the game as we had seen it in the past.
