Tom Leykis Pick-Up Strategy

For those of you unlucky enough NOT to have the Tom Leykis radio show available in your area, Tom Leykis is pretty much the Howard Stern of the afternoon drive. He has a lot of great insights into men/women relationships, and he’s incredibly astute at calling women on their bullshit.
Every Thursday, he has a segment on his show that he calls Leykis 101, which he appropriately dubs "How to pay less for more tail." When he says "pay less," he means money wise and mental health-wise. I really enjoy listening to the show, so when I saw a post on the General board of mASF entitled "Leykis 101 Bar PU," I decided to check it out. It goes as follows…

The advice is to dress well act confidently and go to a bar and be secure enough to just sit down and have a drink. Totally ignore the women and do not under any circumstances approach ANYONE. He claims that after about an hour a women will invariably approach YOU.
Tom claims to have field tested this with much success. Is it just me or does this seem totally NUTS?
Well, allow me to elaborate on this a bit. I’ve actually met Tom Lykis before. I ran into him and his girlfriend at the grocery store one day and chatted with him about how much I enjoy the show and about the blog I run, etc., etc. And the thing is, Tom is INCREDIBLY confident in his interactions with pretty much everyone he meets. He just has an extremely strong reality that sucks people into it.
So when Tom Lykis goes to a bar, and he’s well dressed, and he sits alone and has a drink, he’s not JUST sitting alone being quiet. He’s got an air about him, and he makes his presence felt. He chats up the waitress, he knows other people who work at the bar, he usually has women meet him for drinks (one of my favorite tactics of his is when you call up the girl, ask her "What time are your plans for dinner?" and then after she answers you respond "Great! Let’s meet after that for drinks." It kind-of makes the girl think you’re going to take her out for dinner and then switch things up to meet after she eats so you don’t have to pay for food.)
Anyway, getting back to the point, I think Tom’s method of bar PU is in fact valid for certain types of people. But I know that personally, I’m not able to pull that off quite yet. The only person I’ve seen do this is a rich friend of mine who just sits at a booth, orders TONS of expensive drinks, and has his friends pull girls over to him.

Perhaps I don’t see what all the hubbub is in re of Tom Lykis.
First: the key word is WOMEN. It’s not WOMEN who call in to his talk show…it’s GIRLS. WOMEN know better. GIRLS need his approval or the approval of most men.
Second on the agenda: Tom is approximately 48 years of age. He is extremely overweight with no sexual appeal to WOMEN. He is balding, needs cosmetic dentistry on his teeth, has a turkey neck, man breasts, a belly that would house the state of Rhode Island. Not attractive. WOMEN know that the chance of him getting an erection is non-existant because of his physical state as well as his age.
Last but not least…about this LYKIS 101 class he teaches. ” Those who can DO….those who can’t teach ! “
I actually agree with most of Tom’s advice, but this advice about ignoring women – WTF kind of BS advice is that? Unless you are a celebrity (which coincidentally Tom happens to be) or have JFK Jr./Brad Pitt looks, that kind approach will get you squat with women. The reality is, which Tom ignores on his show, young men are at a huge disadvantage to young women. Not only do men want sex more than they do there are numerically more available young men and young women. That’s demographic fact, 106 male births to 100 female births. Men die younger which causes an imbalance of too many women in older groups. Tom has never acknowledged these realities, instead he pretends there is a huge pool of horny hot young women that men can draw from, all they have to do is dump their girlfriends and dip into this pool to get laid. Truth is guys hang on to their girlfriends because they’re getting more action than they would if they were hanging out in single bars where men outnumber women by a huge majority.
Another thing on the subject of available women, Consider this: If men only date women between the ages of 18 -28 (the only age category of women adequate form Leykis 101 students) and women who aren’t overweight – then subtract all the ones who have had children or have butter faces….hmmm How many women are left over? Of course, every guy between 18 and 80 wants a shot at those women. Sounds like a huge pool of guys after a much smaller pool of women.
Tom is right about what guys need to do to get women: Lie; pretend; cheat…whatever to get women to have sex with you (women reward men who put on the best facades), they need do it because they are at a disadvantage. That’s reality. Men need to work to get women, sitting back and ignoring Leykis quality women isn’t going to get them laid. That’s nonsense no matter what Tom says. If guys are dumb enough to follow that advice they deserve what they get. Nothing.
While I can agree that his strategy will not work for everyone, I don’t lie and cheat to get laid, his advice often is far better than anyone else on the radio, satellite or TV. The reality is Leykis has worked very hard to get women, that is he worked very hard at being successful. That is very good advice for all guys not to get lead weighted down and instead focus on being successful, that does make a big difference in getting laid. Virtually no on in media calls women on there common bullshit and many women truly hate Tom for this. However mothers with sons often have a very different opinion as they are trying to help there son be successful and not fall in to the common traps young guys fall into. These women feel Tom is there best ally.
