How Women Judge Men?

While frolicking through that magical wonderland that is the Don Juan Discussion Forums, I found a post that has a very interesting quote in it…
"Men are evaluated by their income and professional status as harshly as women are evaluated by their looks"
–Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D., Professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School., in her book "Survival of the Prettiest: The Science of Beauty."
I just read this in the book "What Women Want" by Laurence Roy Stains and Stefan Bechtel on pg. 294,
That quote is a punch and so obviously supports the title of her book. This causes me to more harshly judge its validity.
What is your opinion on this?
I disagree because I thought about Doctors and dentists, and for the most part, their women were the same in looks (based on what I’ve seen…Howver, I use to think that most female pre-meds are ugly, but after cold approaches I’ve found the opposite to be true…and they are very snotty too). They have an advantage , I think, if they at least look decent and hold themselves a certain way. On the other hand, ugly celebrities do get pretty women, so maybe it depends on how rich and/or also how popular you are. Perhaps popularity is even more important provided everything else is at least minumum.
Yeah, this post is AFC. We shouldn’t look for excuses to hold us back, but I just couldn’t get it out of my mind, as I’m still trying to decide what career to pursue.

Now, I found this to be interesting because… well, this quote for the most part is true in my opinion. This is how men are typically judged in society – via their income and professional status. And I think comparing the way men are judged in this respect to the way women are judged by their looks is quite astute.
That’s why I’m surprised so many on the DJ boards had such an adverse reaction to this quote. The thing is, though men ARE judged harshly by these factors, they are much more easily traversed than the “looks” issue is when it comes to women. If men don’t make a lot of money or aren’t high up in their jobs, this won’t be a detrimental factor to them in society.
Obviously, guys who are rich and powerful have an easier time getting laid than the rest of us (or, SHOULD have an easier time, since I know of a few rich/powerful guys who are just as AFC as the next). But part of what we study in the pick-up community are tactics that put us on par with the rich/powerful/good looking dudes at least on a social level.
Remember, social constructs don’t really exist. They are all about perception. You can be a poor, ugly cuss with no job, but if you move through life having a blast and making life fun/interesting for others, you’re gonna blow that boring old millionaire out of the water with the ladies.
