What makes a good Victim?

Robert Green, author of the excellent book The Art of Seduction, had an interesting reply about the “victim” of your seduction, and how to find out the best way to seduce them.

The victim section was never intended to be definitive or gospel. There is an idea contained in the chapter that is the key to the whole thing—finding out what a person is missing in life. The whole inside of them is the key to identifying what type they are. And also, there are probably a million types. I like to see the person you are seducing as an individual, with characteristics that make him or her similar to others.

How you find out what a person is missing is obviously the million dollar question. You have to listen real well, get to know them as best as possible, look at how they dress, the little things they put up in their office, the cars they drive, their nervous response when you bring something up, how they talk about their mother or father, something they keep repeating which you don’t understand why, but seems a clue. As I said, repeating Freud, people ooze clues because they are dying to be seduced.

So I wonder what the girl is missing whenever Jlaix’s “I wanna lick it” tactic gets him to home base? =) You can read the original thread here.

While I utterly love this book (it was the first thing I read on Seduction in any shape or form and basically changed my life), I have to wonder about the ability for this to be applied to the real world.

I think I decided I was a charmer archetype at first and that was amazing. All I did was stop talking about myself and got absurdly interested in whatever junk the other person had going on in their lives like it was Da Vinci talking about painting. It was amazing. Completely changed my life, although by the 2nd time I saw them, they seemed bored of it. Thus, cocky/funny with DYD, MM, etc…

Anyway, TAOS does have it’s admirers in the community (I know Swinggcat thinks it’s a good book) but where does it stand in a persons PUA journey? What allows Robert Greene to seem like such an authority on the subject? He’s obviously an amazingly smart person, but who is he? How did he find these principles? How much of his book is pure gold, how much is fool’s gold, and how can we tell the difference?

When Mystery, Style, TD, Harmless, 26, etc. writes something I know they’ve experienced it in the field. Robert Greene writes with just as much authority and eloquence and I have no real proof that it’s really the way the world works (although all of it is deliciously Machiavellian.)

I thoroughly agree that this is a fantastic read and a must for anyone in the community.

However, I do NOT think it should be read as a how-to manual. Its more like a historical compendium of Seduction throughout the ages. Robert Greene is an authority figure in this manner because he did the research. And that research is basically where the validity of this book comes from.

IMO, The book should be used in the following fashions: as basic system for personality indicator types with regards to seduction. Also, it serves a similar purpose as telling someone to go model James Bond. James is not even a real person, so you cannot say his “methodology” or way of being is field tested. However, many of his principles and mannerisms can be directly applied to real world situations.

TAOS offers much the same kind of thing (although without the visual/audio piece). It offers principles and mannerisms which have been effective in seduction for other individuals throughout hisotry. I think the best way to use this, rather than copying history’s great seducers, would be to take small pieces of these peoples “game”, and apply it to your situation. For example, I think (and I don’t know) that some of Swingcat’s ideas/materials were generated from stuff he read in this book. He’d read an idea, then figure out how to apply it today, using field tested material.

Mystery, Style, TD, Harmless, 26, Swingcat, DYD…etc. all serve as examples of field tested materials and theory that can be directly applied to your game. TAOS has ideas and framework that underlies this type of material.

    gotta go get lunch.
