Is Tyler Durden A Fake?

I know there are a lot of people out there who think I’m ragging on Real Social Dynamics just for the fun of it, but that’s not really the case. I’ve actually been getting contacted a great deal by lots of different people with gripes about RSD, most of which I don’t really bother to post.
But occasionally, I get a post that’s really thought provoking, and it just so happens this one is right up there.

Hey TC,Forgive the length of this email, I know you probably get a lot, but hopefully you’ll find this is worthy of being published on your blog.
I’ve been a lurker in the community for many years now. I’m just a regular dude, don’t really take workshops or go to seminars or anything like that. I just like to read the mASF message boards a lot.
And I’ve noticed something I wanted to share with everyone.
I remember back in the days when Tyler Durder started posting on mASF. It was really cool to see a guy with a new perspective on stuff kind of rise through the ranks with his thoughts and ideas.
And he had some great posts, like the spastic rambling series. There was a time there where Tyler really seemed to be innovating a lot of cool theories and ideas.
But recently, a lot of his posts have lost that excitement and revolutionary quality. And by recently, I mean in the last year or so.
So I started going through a lot of the posts on mASF archive around the time period where TD was posting all his great stuff, and realized this was around the time of Project Hollywood, where TD was living with all those big time PUAs like Mystery and Style.
After reading Style’s book, I got the idea that TD was also traveling around and meeting with really good PUAs at this time as well.
But ever since Project Hollywood ended, and the RSD guys have been ostricized by the big time guys, TD’s posts have gone down hill, which leads me to believe that most of the really cool stuff Tyler "developed" and posted about in the good old days were really concepts and ideas he took from much better pick up artists and re-wrote to make it look like he came up with it.
I’m not making this claim lightly. If you look at some of TD’s old posts, and compare them to his recent posts, you’ll see big differences.
In the old posts, he had some really interesting core ideas which he went on to theorise on and test out.
In his new posts, it’s more like he’s got the same old ideas which he tries to drag out into something new. A lot of his posts make me feel like I’m reading a term paper where he’s trying to hide the fact he has no new ideas with a bunch of psychobable writing.
So I want to pose this question…
Do you think Tyler was ever really that great of a PUA? Or was he just a really smart keyboard jockey who stole his best stuff from better PUAs like Mystery and Sytle?

Well, I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t a provocative email. It is true that Tyler’s best stuff came when he was living with Mystery and Style in Project Hollywood, and when he was traveling around the world meeting the great PUAs from Mystery’s Lounge.
And it’s also true that his posts since Project Hollywood imploded have been pretty lackluster.
There’s been a lot of controversy over TD’s skill level ever since he appeared on the scene. I remember the big threads on Mystery’s Lounge about whether Tyler was a fake or not. This is stuff that wasn’t viewable by anyone but the people on the Lounge, but there were a great many people who knew Tyler who thought he was full of shit.
Eventually, his friends outweighed his enemies, so he was accepted into the fold. But you can’t deny that sometimes Tyler stretches the truth when it comes to his own prowess as a ladies man.
TD has been caught in a few fibs, such as him saying he can "open any set," or claiming the girls he sarges are 9s and 10s when in reality they were more like 6s and 7s.
And for everyone who’s read The Game, you know TD is really insecure, defensive, and manipulative.
I’ve even had eye-witnesses come forward and tell me that TD had a whole "Gay" routine worked out with wingmen where him and his wingman would actually MAKE OUT with each other in front of girls to try and get the girls to make out with each other.
(If that’s the kind of innovation TD is pioneering, I think I’ll stick to the old stuff)
So there’s a lot of shady stuff going on with TD, and if he really did get his best concepts from better PUAs like Mystery and Style, well… I can’t say I’d be surprized.

Tyler is the man!
He has a hot GF, lives in a mansion and has money coming in from desperate guys. And best of all he has slaves working for him (bootkampf instuctors) who are collecting the money for him. With that money he is able to live big in LA and buy expensive stuff. He is living a rich lifestyle and he is friends with a lot of really cool people (high value cool people of course, not low value). He talks in his recent posts about totally dominating the world around him. He is like a mini Patton slowly taking over the high value parts of LA. This is the most advanced level of pua-dom. You guys just don’t understand.

I lost alot of respect for Tyler after some of his outrageous doings. His character in The Game didn’t help him either but now I really think you have pushed it.
I have listened to many of Tyler audio’s and read countless texts of his. He has got game – he knows what he’s doing. I have 3 friends who informed me of his activities infield and apparently they were really quite outstanding.
You have lost me as a viewer to your site unfortunately. You rant on and on about negativity but then a couple weeks later slate the hell out of RSD and Tyler. Your persistant aswell, like a fucking Jack Russell. Just please stop. Be a high value dude – not some pussy-ass bitch who is so insecure; it is incredibly apparent in your writings.

Of course his more recent posts will not be as revolutionary as when he was first learning. Should they be even more innovative after TEN years in the game? It’s like TD has said, is their a need to rehash his archives over and over, and to need to reinvent the wheel every week??

I never met TD or anyone with the RSD crew. I can’t really post an opinion on this, and while this does make me curious, I’m determined to not look through his archives just to compare his old shit to the new shit. So what if he’s re-hashing his material? Maybe a new perspective on an old topic can help a newbie who didn’t get it the first time. In regards to stealing ideas from other PUAs, why didn’t they post their ideas first? If Tyler were to visit me (doubtful) and steal some of my shit, I’d call him on it and say “Hey, I pretty much said the exact same shit two months ago on mASF; look it up.” Is it that important to me to have the credit? A little. But mostly, anything I can think of somebody else can think of as well, so if they hop on the good foot and beat me to the punch, oh well.
Look at what happened to Chuck Palahniuk after ‘Fight Club’ came out: everybody and their grandfather started to claim that he stole the idea from when they were in the Army’s boot camp or a POW camp or when they were drunk and bored and somebody said “Hey Mitch, I want you to hit me as hard as you can. Let’s see where we can take this.” Palahniuk didn’t invent anything new, but he was the first to write about it, and that’s why he deserves the credit.

I know that’s provocative, but I really like you, and I am not trying to be mean.
I don’t know much about TD, the stories about him never impressed me, and I never cared about him.
The real story here is most of these gurus are “fake” in some sense – nothing special to do with TD. If they were any good they would prove it. Very few of them will prove their skills to witnesses or just give a clear account of their success and failure rate. The few who will generally are goodlooking and young to such an extent that their success doesn’t necessarily prove that they have “game” that average guys can learn.
Strauss’s book was great, but ultimately he is a prejudiced insider. What we really need now is an outside objective investigative reporter to force the gurus to come clean and put up or shut up.
Ok first off I personally don’t believe Tyler is a Fake, even if he is at times less than human.
Here is my reasoning:
Tyler was the inventer of the AMOG tactics. I mean honestly who else would be that big of an asshole than tyler to think up some of those techniques. It just fits his personality too well. Not many people living in project Hollywood would have done those techniques except good ol tyler. And also both Style and Mystery give multiple accounts to this. Have we all forgotten the stories about him sarging in lester square and coming up with the idea?
Now as far as him getting laid…welll heh who actually knows. He who can win the most sets is not always the one that gets laid the most. I can see a lot of girls being turned off by his personality thinking him too insecure and malicius to sleep with. I think Zan said it best when he talked about how you really have to love women, and i’m not sure how much tyler really does. In fact sometimes it seems as though he’s trying to get even with them and all of the jocks that have bruised his ego growing up.
So yeah, Tyler:
Asshole – Yes!
Crook – Yes!
Social Robot – Yes!
Bitter as hell – Yes!
Fake – Probably NOT…
Although it was an interesting idea guys, i’m going to have to dissagree with you on this on even though I have some serious beef with that guy.

I think the man needs respect. I feel that he has an indominable spirit, something very few of us have. I think tyler will achieve A LOT in his remaining life, and unlike ThunderSuck, I am not jealous of him, I admire him.
TC, I will say it again I like you, but at this point I think it is ridiculous for you to get on TD for being fake.
You need to come clean with your own personal success level. Whether you are super successful or a complete failure you need to give some testimony to the community.
I find it hard to believe your success level is not very low, because otherwise you would be telling everyone about it.
If you have been a complete failure or mostly a failure that is particularly important for people to know. Why ? Not to make fun of you, but because you would be the ultimate case study of a guy immersed in the community but getting nowhere. It would offer the possibility for people like Strauss to analyze your situation, possibly correcting it and passing on valuable information to other guys who are struggling. Strauss recently mentioned this issue and his interest in solving it: guys hanging around the community and never getting better.
Bottomline, you have a great website but being willing to spread gossip, judge/rank/review all the PUAs, write and sell your own seduction books,etc. but completely refuse to in anyway disclose your own experience is a monumental hypocrisy and failure of character. It damages the entire community. It feeds into the general sense of dishonest secrecy that many people experience when they get involved. There is a general sense (probably accurate in most cases) that seduction gurus are just out to grab money from students, and either hide effective seduction skills or are just fakes without any valuable knowledge.
You need to face the fact that you are becoming one cause of that bad experience. Strauss’s book made tremendous progress in shedding light and bringing honesty into the process. Your website used to be that way.
If you are bedding babes then at least give an outline of the situation: how many, how hot, what it took, etc.
If not then somebody needs to figure out how and why the fuck a guy totally immersed in the community for 8 years isn’t getting any. That’s not about insulting you. It’s about making progress and helping out others who are struggling.

I don’t think anybody here backs you up in your vendetta against TylerDurden– you are starting to look like a petulant little child trying to get their brother in trouble as revenge.
Thundercat you have some personal issues– but I think you have gone overboard with your criticism of TylerDurden. I have personally seen the guy game girls and he is pretty good– I saw him in Chicago at the DYD seminar in 2003 and TD was the best I had ever seen up to that point.
Thundercat you were at that seminar too, and you were also riding on the wave of TylerDurden worship. I don’t know how you guys fells out; Tyler claims it was because of a failed business venture of yours; but you have to get a handle on your frame and your life.
If you don’t provide your personal history we can never know where you are coming from with your vicious attacks.

I thought that the RSD reviews were understandable. However, I think this one pushes the envelope on just plain pathetic. It’s apparent you have some personal issues and a bit of a bias. There is NO substance in this post other than to tarnish the image of TD. Nothing more than gossip. I’m sure you’re a great guy but dude…you need to re-evaluate what message your trying to send across to the community.

Tyler might be more of a repackager than an innovator, but that’s hardly a crime. David D. doesn’t really come up with much new stuff himself — he essentially gathers all the info he can and condenses and conveys it in a way that’s easy for many of us to “get.” I don’t see that as a bad thing.
Now the whole RSD ripoffshop issue, that *is* disconcerting. But it’s another issue for another thread.

OK…OK….ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!As someone who’s just now attempting to become a part of the community I gotta say ENOUGH ALREADY!Some of the post’s have a valid point.TC it would be cool if you gave some detailed recounting of your own experiences.People like myself learn by example in situation’s like this.Now I’ve never met Tyler or Papa for that matter & yes STYLE pretty much painted a dreadful picture in the GAME(stealing other people technique & other assorted cockblocking as well as bitch like behavior in other word’s the part when he asks style how he has a girlfriend & he meaning T.D. does not?)However STYLE never flat out saide that T.D. has no “G” or atleast not that I can remember.The Question is whether or not he can teach & if he has anything to teach or if it’s original?Every week I look in here and their’s atleast 3-5 post’s dissing Tyler this is not good.Then I see ton’s of post’s that are not much more than BITCHLIKE for the most part.Alot of these guy’s are obviously Tyler fans talking about thing’s like ThunderJew.All I can say to that is this.I’m not much of a follower but on those occasion’s that I find myself in that role.I like to follow someone who can & will fight his own battles.I don’t know Tyler but STYLE did a good job of makeing him look like shit and the fan club is not helping him look any better because the majority of those comment’s in his defense are sophomorish at best.In any event it would be nice to see some actual honest truth.So on that note until I claime the spot of Noteriety amongst the top PUA’s(that I’m confident I will recieve)let’s see if you guy’s can show some class and stop the childish bickering.Here’s a perfect opportunity.I recently sighned up for MYSTERY’S on line apprentice program.It’s been tough going because the only computer I have access to is at work right now,but I’m grinding away at it regardless.Wish me luck.

How convenient that Style’s archives were removed from fs.com, and now his business partner thundercat can claim that Mys. and Style invented TD’s tactics, and no one can go look up the posts where STYLE HIM FUCKING SELF credited the shit to TD.
Thundercat is nothing more than Style’s hired gun so that Style can indirectly smear TD without it looking like he is paying too much attention to someone “beneath him.”
Anyone who read the game and paid any attention at all would know that Style read “Influence” knows all of TD’s amoging tactics, has HIS OWN amoging tactics and USES THEM, and thus has the capacity to be just as manipulative and calculating as TD. Yet everyone is so blind with hero worship that no one makes the connection that when Style’s business partner smears Syle’s main competition, there might be a connection to, oh, I don’t know, maybe STYLE, the guy who dedicated entire chapters of his book to smearing Tyler.
