Controlling Your Body Odor

It’s been a while since I blogged on hygiene, so I figured it was time to toss up another helpful hint.  I found this pretty good article on Body Odor (I’ll say it again — BODY ODOR!!!) and how to control that nasty man-stink we’ve all come to despise during our time.  It’s a little Brittish (the article, not the body odor), but don’t worry, I won’t hold that against it.  =)

Body Odour
Our bodies produce two kinds of sweat: eccrine and apocrine. Actually, neither of these liquids has an odour. Eccrine is found all over our bodies. It helps to regulate the body’s temperature. Apocrine is the body-odour culprit. It is found in the groin and underarm areas. That well-known sweaty smell occurs only after apocrine reacts with the bacteria on our skin.

Controlling Body Odour
Some of us are "cursed" with bigger and more active apocrine glands than others. And some of us simply aren’t as successful as others in getting rid of the bacteria on our skin.

Try these tips:

–Bathe at least once daily with an antibacterial soap such as Safeguard or Dial. If the problem doesn’t soon clear up, you might try a prescription soap such as pHisoHex. Some folks recommend using benzoyl peroxide or an antibacterial ointment. There should be no problem with short term use of such remedies except perhaps some drying of the skin. BUT, as with all medications, be sure to read and follow all instructions BEFORE USE. Get the problem cleared up, then go back to the plain old Safeguard brand or Dial brand soap.
–Use a deodorant with aluminium or zinc. Either of these metals should kill odour-causing bacteria. Extremely heavy sweaters should use an antiperspirant/deodorant containing aluminium chloride.
–Launder clothing more often. No matter how busy we get, that trip to the cleaners is a must. Wash clothes at home using an odour-fighting detergent such as Tide.
–Freshen up in the bathroom with a towelette as many times as necessary during the day. You might also apply some hydrogen peroxide or some witch hazel on the most offending areas of the body.
–Avoid the regular consumption of spicy or sharp-smelling foods. The odour comes through the pores.

When To Consult A Doctor About Body Odour
Different bodily odours could indicate specific internal problems:

–A beer smell could indicate a yeast condition
–The smell of nail polish remover could indicate diabetes
–An ammonia smell might be an indication of liver disease

Any odour that is not that distinct sweaty smell should be discussed with a doctor.

Having been in Europe recently, I can’t stress the importance of controlling your body odor enough.  There was more than a few times I was caught downwind of some “Eurostink” and nearly gagged.  I’m wondering if any Europeans out there can answer why it is so many out in their neck of the woods prefer to go au-natural.

Anyway, if you wanna read the original article, check it out here.

    Bad. Really really bad.

After jogging found huge pus filled boils
in my pits on 3 occassions. Disgusting.
Pores were blocked by the anti-perspirant,
so the sweat had to escape somewhere. Think
about what this does to your body over a period
of 40 years? Also your liver.

Go to a health food store. ALL the deoderants
claim NO ALUMINUM OR ZINC for a reason. I use
that on days of minimal physical activity, then
use the shit stuff when I go out.

I want to offer a tip on hygiene for the obese that I think will be of great help.At Kmart there is a powder called Caldescene. It works better and longer than any other powder out there to keep you drier longer and free from odor in between showers.Iam obese myself and use this stuff and cant believe just how well it works. When your extra heavy your body traps moisture in places like under breasts,in the crease beneath the belly, and in the crease where the thighs meet the privates and this moisture has a very bad, stinky odor to it and the only way to get rid of it once its there is to thoroughly wash those areas. But even after showering,it doesnt take long for the moisture to arrive again with the stink close behind. But if you shower, dry off well and then generously apply the caldescene powder, the moisture and stink will stay away for at least 2 days (thats been my luck anyway). So please try the caldescene powder.Kmart has it,Wal-mart doesnt. It costs around $6.00 but its well worth it!Please try it.

It’s a no brainer that you should always be fresh when approaching the opposite sex (or same sex for some of you).

Nothing can be more repelling than a armpit pumping out the B.O. jams. You have to get that stuff covered up.

If it makes you feel any better, I believe that females tend to put out more stank than guys do. I’m sure this varies, though. Well, good luck on hiding your shame guys.

    Stay fresh!
