Some people may have been wondering more about what “Neutral Rapport” from my write-up on TD’s Masters speech. Well, Afc1234 elaborated a bit on TD’s three models of rapport.

Trying for rapport: when you open someone trying to get rapport by saying something like, “nice weather?” or “i like your shoes?” its very obvious that you are trying to engage the other person because you want to talk to them specifically.neutral rapport: most neutral indirect openers like “can we have a female opinion on x?” its neutral because you dont care about having rapport with them. you are simply interested in getting something answered by someone and you subcommunicate that you dont care who answers it, them or someone else.
breaking rapport: a way alpha guys test for dominance. usually they do it to maintain dominance and beta other guys. for instance, a guy you dont know will yell “whats up dude!!!!!” and you go “ummm…good” and he starts laughing at you at the top of his lungs and wont talk to you after that. he wants to make you look like a tool and show every one that he is more alpha.
