How Not To Be Dependant On One Woman

August 29, 2005 by

n3rv1 has one hell of a post over on mASF about something he calls "Dependancy."  We all know how sometimes a guy can get hung up on that "one special girl," and when that happens, he ignores all other possibilities with women only to eventually find out that the girl of his desire just wants to be "friends."  Well, n3rv1 offers a solution to that predicament…

n3rv1 writes:
Variation.

I’m not a drug councelor or anywhere near an expert on the issue, so what I mean by "dependency" is a subtle kind of mental weakness that keeps a guy from doing things out of the ordinary, like, say, having sex with different women.

As I see it, dependency keeps a guy in his comfort zone. This is a big issue. He learns to depend on circumstances being familiar. His system can’t cope unless he is "in his element," so to speak. This inability to cope with new situations will, over time, translate into an unwillingness to ACT outside of the boundaries of what’s known and predictable.

This unwillingness to act is what I mean by "dependency."

The best cure for this is VARIATION in all senses of the meaning.

Mix it up. Keep things fresh. Engage everything. These words are purposely ambiguous.

Hovering over insignifcant details shouldn’t be allowed. Sticking to one train of thought for too long should become UNCOMFORTABLE. "New" things should no longer be seen as
"new," but "natural."

I seriously think this issue and explanation is multi-applicable. I think it has to do with PU, sexual activity, probably even drug/substance use, feelings of motivation, happiness, and a whole lot of other shit that I can’t explain.

Personal, REAL LIFE examples of how I try to keep things in variation include, but are in no way limited to:

Physical Activities: Obviously sex, lifting weights, playing frisbee golf, swimming, canoeing, hiking, camping, biking, fishing, cooking outdoors, playing drums, painting, working two part-time jobs instead of one full-time job, walking as transportation, doing weird shit, etc.

Mental Activities: #1 MOST IMPORTANT: TALKING TO STRANGERS (there’s no better mental exercise for me than having quick connections with random people — it’s a dual exercise in wit and empathy, it’s not PU, it’s nothing that takes EFFORT, it’s just an overall openness and compassion for other human beings), listening to as wide a variety of music as possible, reading (philosophy, art, comparative mythology, great literary works, science magazines, psychology, PU, current affairs, history, comic books, etc) writing(***PU JOURNAL*** –> key item: keeping track of approaches and random interactions I’ve had throughout the day keeps positive experiences in my conscious sphere, making it easier for me to project positive friendly-guy vibes}, interesting-event journal, dream journal, keeping track of upcoming events, creative writing, mASF, written correspondence, chat, random thoughts jotted down on post-it notes, etc), watching movies and TV (which I don’t get enough of — with no cable access and a budget too tight for rentals or high-speed internet I’m kind of out of touch with pop culture)

The main point I’m trying to make is that it is possible to INGRAIN VARIETY into your behavior and lifestyle, not in a drastic, earth-shattering way, but in MANY realistic, subtle, yet impactful ways.

I wholeheartedly agree with n3rv1′s assessment here.  It’s really foolish to latch on to just ONE woman (at least until you’re married or in a relationship).  You have to keep your options open and meet lots of women.  This little tactic will really help you from getting your heart broken.

There was always going to be some verbal exchanges in the UFC’s biggest fight in history and some fans think Conor
McGregor pleaded for mercy during his defeat to Khabib.

McGregor lost in the fourth round after submitting to Khabib who had locked him to
his famous neck choke and had taken a beating throughout the fight.

At the end of the third round, McGregor could be overheard telling an angry Khabib
‘it’s only business’, after the Russian was forced off him
    by the referee.

In response, Khabib seemingly says ‘ah, I guess so’ as he walks away to
his team’s corner in the octagon.

It was the culmination of months of tension and verbal abuse between the pair in the lead up to the
    bout.

The fight was clearly more than just business for Khabib, whose team’s bus was attacked by McGregor months ago.

Khabib could be heard during round two telling McGregor, ‘let’s talk
now’, as pummelled the Irishman into the floor.

McGregor believed it was business but Khabib clearly felt things were more personal

It was a response to McGregor’s pre-match trash talking,
in which he said: ’I am going to maul him and then let’s see who’s doing
the talking, let’s see who’s having a conversation in there.’

The exchanges didn’t go unnoticed as fans acknowledged Khabib’s dominant performance and aggression towards his challenger, before things eventually spilled over.

The Russian’s performance was undone by his post-match antics though as he jumped out the octagon and made aim at McGregor’s
coach, Dillon Danis, causing a brawl to break out.

Khabib has since apologised for his actions, which amounted
to assault, saying: ‘I hope I didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings with this jump’.

McGregor has also sparked rumours there could be a rematch after tweeting: ‘We lost the match, but won the
    battle. The war goes on.’

It is yet to be seen what punishment Khabib and his team will receive from the UFC.

Channel Seven star Sally Obermeder is at the helm of a thriving wellness empire named SWIISH, alongside
her sister and co-founder, Maha Corbett.

Sally, 49, first came up with the idea for their original super
green supplements while in hospital and fighting aggressive stage-three
breast cancer, which she has since overcome.

She was diagnosed with the disease back in October 2011, at 41 weeks pregnant
and the day before she was due to give birth to
her first daughter Annabelle, now 11.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Friday, the TV presenter
revealed how her brand has gone from strength to strength
in an ‘accidental success’ and gone on to include supplements for gut health
and even menopausal symptoms  – and how it all originated because she wanted to ‘help people’ get on top of their health.

Sally spoke about her approach to wellness and her recent 10-year cancer free milestone,
saying she’s grateful for each and every day and feels like she’s ‘giving back’ in a way
    after her cancer journey.

How Sally Obermeder built a wellness empire: TV star reveals SWIISH is an ‘accidental success’ after co-founding the brand to ‘try and help people’ after her cancer
diagnosis: ‘I know what it’s like to be both sick and well’

Sally said she’s grateful for the support of her brand, with her SWIISH community and fans also supporting her as she beat breast cancer.

‘When I had cancer, I was the beneficiary of the love and goodwill of the
people I didn’t know and that’s not lost on me,’ she said.

‘I thought, ”what can I do here to feel like I am giving back?” I
know what it’s like to be sick and what it feels like to be well.’

Sally, 49, first came up with the idea for their original super green supplements while in hospital and fighting aggressive stage-three
breast cancer, which she has since overcome

Speaking about the growth of her brand, she said she first called sister Maha to tell her about
her greens idea while in hospital all those years ago.

‘The thing is, we didn’t set out to make a
brand, when it started, I rang Maha from my hospital bed,
and was like, ”I want to do something that helps people feel better.” It feels
like an accidental success, I didn’t have
    a blueprint,’ Sally explained.

‘Our growth has been very organic. I only set out to make greens.
I didn’t set out with any grand plan. It was the customer who enabled us to get here.
When the customers were like, ”we have the greens and feel
so good but can you help us sleep” and then we worked on a sleep product,’ she said.

Reflecting on the success of the brand and it becoming a reported six-figure business, she added:
‘We’ve got retail partners now and I owe it to the community who built
this with us. Sometimes even I’m shocked.’

Sally co-founded the brand with sister Maha Corbett (pictured). ’It started as a blog.
Being a woman in business and in business full stop
it is really tough. At every turn you, it’s challenging,’ she
    said

Sally said a lot of ‘blood, sweat and tears’ have gone into building the brand, where a gut fibre
    powder starts at $39.95.

‘It started as a blog. Being a woman in business and in business full stop it is really tough.
At every turn you, it’s challenging.’

‘Socials makes everything look really easy. But what you don’t see is the
2am finishes, the sacrifices, the things you don’t go to cause you’re
working on putting your money into the business, you’re going without certain things, but it’s your choice,
    ‘ she explained.

Sally said working with her sister is enjoyable as they have
a ‘close bond’ and are ‘sounding boards for one another’.

‘We are polar opposites and that’s beneficial for us and the business, we come at everything from a
    different perspective,’ she said.

‘It’s going to be a big year [for us].’

Sally said she starts each and every day with what she calls
a ‘supershot’ where she mixes a spoonful of her immunity, super greens and collagen supplement
together in a glass of water, in what she says is a simple approach to wellness.

‘I do a super shot everyday. I’m a big believe that wellness needs to be effective and it’s
easy – it can’t be complicated, it takes the joy out of it.
I don’t have time for a 48-step routine,’ she said.

She said she hasn’t had a cold or flu in four years thanks to her immunity product.
She also eats a healthy and balanced diet, but does indulge in the occasional treat or dessert if out.

‘I eat well and normally, protein, carbs, veggies and fruit and I also eat
    sweets,’ she said.

‘For a long time, I didn’t think I’d get to that milestone, I didn’t think I’d get to one year, let alone five or ten. That was
a milestone, but weirdly enough, so is most days,’ she said.

‘Your filter or lens of life just changes. Sometimes it’s less
about the big milestones… So is like next Tuesday and today, I’m very grateful in a way of

The majority of Americans – 73 per cent – indicated that they go online on a daily basis, and many

A Pew Research Center survey collected data from internet users between June and July 2015, and confirmed that Americans are

that 36 per cent of people ages 18 to 29 are online almost constantly,

NatWest customers were unable to move money or pay bills from their accounts today as a huge technical failure hit
    services.

Others reported being unable to withdraw money because wages had failed to arrive
    in their accounts.

As many as eight million people may have been affected, although some
were reporting they still had access to their
    money.

Disruption: Natwest customers reported problems with the bank’s online services

Account balances were also not being updated while some small business owners said they had been unable to pay staff.

The banking group apologised to its customers for the problems
and said it was working hard to fix them.

But a spokesman admitted it was possible that the glitch could also affect customers expecting payments
to be made into their accounts tonight.

Asked whether it was possible that more account-holders will encounter problems tomorrow, the spokesman replied: ‘Potentially, but hopefully
    not.’

The bank promised to keep 1,000 branches open until 7pm tonight in all major towns and cities to ‘assist customers’.

One branch in West London had closed its doors
with only two members of staff outside telling customers that they would
not know until tomorrow when services would be restored.
They also said NatWest customers should only use the bank’s own ATMs to guarantee being able to get money out.

NatWest, which carries the new ad slogan ‘Helpful Banking’, has not said whether it will cover penalties imposed on its customers
by third parties for late payments on credit cards
    and bills.

WAS NATWEST’S NEW MOBILE PAYMENTS GIZMO TO BLAME?

Last Wednesday, NatWest heralded a leap forward for
    its mobile phone payment technology.

It launched a system – GetCash – that would allow people to take cash from an ATM
without using their cash card, by making a request on their handset.

They are sent a six digit pin number, after making the request, which can be entered at a
    cash machine.

The aim, the bank said, was to help people who may have lost
or forgotten their card or those who want to leave
    their wallet at home.

It was made available to around two and-a-half million customers who already have the banking app on their phone – on iPhone,
Android or BlackBerry Smartphones, and on the iPad.

The launch comment from Ben Green, head of mobile at NatWest and RBS, well now have a
sense or irony: ‘We’ve heard countless stories from customers who’ve left their wallet behind,
or parents who need a quick way to send money across to their children immediately.’

NatWest, which is the main branch operation in the UK for the part-nationalised
Royal Bank of Scotland group, said in a statement:
‘This is a technical problem affecting a large number of NatWest and Ulster Bank
customers, and a small number of RBS customers, including some of our business customers.

‘It was caused by a failure of our systems to properly update customers’ balances overnight.
The main problem customers are having is that where people have had money
go into their accounts overnight, there may be a delay in it showing up on their balance.

‘This is an unacceptable inconvenience for our customers,
for which we apologise. We can assure our customers that this problem is strictly of a technical nature and will be fixed as soon as
possible. We can also confirm that no customers will be permanently out of pocket
    as a result of this.’

A spokeswoman declined to comment on whether this would also mean the bank would cover
late payment penalties incurred as result of the account failures.

The RBS group has 26million customers in the UK with nearly eight million holding NatWest current accounts.

RBS-owned Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland, with 100,000 customers, is also affected.

The problems began at 8am, according to reports from customers.

Hundreds of customers turned to NatWest’s feedback website to voice their anger.
One customer wrote: ‘If my Direct Debits bounce as a result of my wages not showing, are you going to cover my charges & waiver your
    own for bounced payments please?’

At 2.50pm, nearly seven hours after the problems began, NatWest added a statement to the page saying:
‘We continue to experience technical issues and are doing everything
    we can to resolve ASAP.

‘We recognise this has caused significant inconvenience.

This is an unacceptable inconvenience for our customers for which
    we apologise.’

Bob Spearman, from Petworth, West Sussex, told the BBC his tax credit payment had not been paid into his NatWest account.

‘We, like many other low-income families, live from week
to week and the Child Tax Credit weekly payment is a lifeline on which we
    rely,’ he said.

Thousands more comments were posted on Twitter.

Some people reported being unable to use their cards to make payments.

Customer Kora-Lee Holmes said she was stranded in Venice, Italy, because she was unable to check out of her hotel because her NatWest card
    was not working.

She wrote: ‘Missed my flight home from Venice because Natwest’s server problems mean I can’t check out of
my hotel. New flights = £200.’

From 3.30pm, some customers reported that payments and salary payments were beginning
    to show in accounts.

Following a breakdown in trust in banking, the industry
has try to rebuilt its relationship with customers in recent years.
NatWest launched a multi-million pound advertising campaign in 2010 to promote its Customer Charter.

The 14-point charter included the commitment:
‘If we make a mistake we will apologise and fix it, quickly and fairly.’

That may give hope to those seeking compensation for late payment penalties
    that they may face.

RBS shares shed 6p, or nearly 2.5 per cent, as the events unfolded, down from an intra-day high of 250p at midday.

    website

‘More problems ahead for all British banks’

Last week, RBS-NatWest launched a mobile banking app that
lets people to withdraw money from cash machines using their
    smartphone.

It is the latest bank to offer such technology as the industry moves towards making smartphones digital
    wallets.

But the rush to offer new technology may come at
    a price.

Experts warned that customers of UK banks would increasingly face such problems because of the rush to deliver new and evermore sophisticated
    services.

Daoud Fakhri, senior analyst at consultancy Datamonitor Financial Services,
said: ‘This episode is emblematic of wider problems facing the banking sector as a whole.

‘Many providers, being early adopters of IT systems when the technology was still in its infancy, have been left saddled with inflexible core systems
that are often several decades old, and that are increasingly unable
to cope with the demands being placed on them.

‘The growing expectations of consumers around online and mobile banking
means that the tensions between the provision of ever more sophisticated services and the
capability of core systems to satisfy these demands are close
to breaking point, and this increases the likelihood of episodes such
as the NatWest mishap happening again.’

This week Mr Chetiyawardana posted a message
on social media in which he explained that the bar will soon be ‘killed off’ and reborn on the same site
with the same team but as a reinvented concept.

Overall, London celebrates 10 bars on the 2018 list, welcoming four newcomers
    - Scout (No.28), Three Sheets (No.29), Swift (No.46) and
Coupette (No.18), which also wins the Best New Opening Award, sponsored by
    Thomas Henry.

Connaught Bar (No.5) also receives the Heering Legend of the List title, which recognises the bar that
has performed most consistently over the 10-year history of the list.

Last year’s No.1, American Bar at The Savoy, now claims the No.2
position, while established London destinations including Bar Termini (No.6), Oriole (No.17) and
Happiness Forgets (No.35) also remain on the list.

The US boasts 10 bars on the list with The NoMad (No.4) in New York crowned Best Bar in North
America sponsored by Michter’s Distillery, for the second consecutive year.
New York’s Dante cracks the top 10, climbing seven places to No.9, while Employees Only jumps 11 places
back to No.26. The city’s impressive line-up is completed by
Attaboy (No.15), The Dead Rabbit (No.16), and BlackTail (No.41).

The US boasts 10 bars on the list with The NoMad (No.4) in New York crowned
Best Bar in North America sponsored by Michter’s Distillery, for the second consecutive year

The bar staff at The NoMad work their magic. The bar’s website says: ‘Award-winning Bar Director Leo Robitschek has created a
beverage program that celebrates classically-focused cocktails, while
delving into two new arenas: festive, large-format drinks and a
selection of reserve cocktails crafted with rare spirits.
An extensive selection of both approachable and sought-after wines and beers are available as well’

New York’s Dante, pictured, cracks the top 10, climbing
seven places to No.9, while Employees Only jumps 11 places back to No.26.
The city’s impressive line-up is completed by Attaboy (No.15),
The Dead Rabbit (No.16), and BlackTail (No.41)

San Francisco is represented by two bars: Tommy’s (No.40) and Trick Dog (No.44).
Chicago celebrates a new entry on to the list
with the debut of Lost Lake at No.50. Miami’s Sweet
Liberty climbs six places to No.21 with the industry paying
special tribute to John Lermayer, one of its founders who sadly passed away
earlier this year, with the Industry Icon Award, sponsored by Seedlip.

Spain also has plenty to celebrate this year with two new entries on the list.
Paradiso from Barcelona enters the top 50 at No.37, having been named the One To Watch in 2017,
while Salmon Guru from Madrid enters at No.47 – a significant jump
following its debut at No.82 in 2017.

The city of Paris is represented by three bars again this year
with Le Syndicat jumping an impressive 10 places to No.24.

Little Red Door now sits at No.33 and Candelaria at No.42.

Miami’s Sweet Liberty, pictured, climbs six places to No.21 with the
industry paying special tribute to John Lermayer,
one of its founders who sadly passed away earlier this year, with the Industry Icon Award, sponsored by Seedlip

Sweet Liberty’s interior is definitely on the hip side – it’s an industrial twist on the classic sixties diner theme

San Francisco is represented in the top 50 list by two bars: Tommy’s (No.40) and Trick Dog (No.44).

places to No.13 to take the Highest Climber Award, sponsored by Nikka Whisky.

To add to the city-state’s accolades, Singapore-based bartender Joe Schofield, recently of Tippling Club (No.58) and
now heading the Sensorium project, has been named the Altos Bartenders’
Bartender for his ground-breaking flavour developments.

La Factoría in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, comes in at
No.36, while Mexico City’s Licorería Limantour climbs to an impressive No.11.
Fifty Mils, also located in the Mexican capital, enters the ranking at No.45.

Florería Atlántico (No.14) from Buenos Aires, Argentina, is
named Best Bar in South America, sponsored by Asahi.
Joining the success in South America is Carnaval in Lima, Peru (No.68),

    Liverpool go clear

    By Harry Bamforth

Right, it’s time for me to dash.

What a win that was for Liverpool. It may be one that we look back on in May as a turning point.

The Mo Salah-inspired comeback means that Arne Slot’s side are
now eight points clear of Manchester City in second.

They now have a huge week coming up in which they play both Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Win both of them and they will be in dreamland.

Anyway, I’m now off to cover a mammoth match that is taking place down in Suffol, please come and join me.

I will see you all there.

    Szoboszlai: ‘I hope Salah stays’

    By Harry Bamforth

Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool midfielder, speaking to Sky Sports:

They are a good team, good with the ball. They scored two quick goals but the
most important thing was the reaction. We showed it very well and happy
    with the three points.

We had a couple of meetings before the game and we know they build-up
from the back. Sometimes they do well, sometimes they make mistakes and that was the case here.
We pressed really well and got the goal.

    On Mohamed Salah:

Everyone knows Mo. He just has to keep going and I hope I play with him
for as long as I can.

On extending their lead at the top:

It is a great feeling but it is the beginning of the season. We just need to
continue and not think where the other teams are.

    Liverpool’s to lose?

    By Harry Bamforth

Liverpool really made that hard for themselves, didn’t they?

Everybody expected the Reds to go to the south coast and steamroll Southampton with relative ease.

Well, it was quite the opposite.

Arne Slot’s side really struggled today, but I think that is
what makes this win such a big one.

Not only are they now eight points clear, but they showed that ‘mentality monster’
energy that Jurgen Klopp used to talk about.

Is it now Liverpool’s title race to lose?

    16:10

    WATCH: Salah saves the day

    By Harry Bamforth

These are what you call absolute scenes.

As soon as Mo Salah sticks the ball away you can hear the chaos in that away end.

It reminds me of when Salah scored a last-minute winner at St Mary’s in 2019 while Liverpool were
    in the title race.

    A monumental moment.

    16:06

    Salah to the rescue

    By Harry Bamforth

It just had to be him, didn’t it?

Liverpool looked like they were about to chuck away three
points to the Premier League’s bottom side, but Mo Salah was never
    going to let that happen.

He was relatively poor for 65 minutes, but he just always has to have his say.

When he was stepping up to that penalty, I’m
not sure there was a single soul in the stadium that thought he would miss.

That’s now 10 goals for Salah in the Premier League this
season and he has scored in five matches on the spin.

Surely that contract is now ready, eh?

    FULL-TIME: Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Liverpool get the job done!

It was far from straightforward, but Arne Slot’s men do just enough
to extend their lead at the top of the league.

When the Reds are in trouble there is always one man there to save
them, and that is Mo Salah.

His second-half double may be looked back on as a
    key moment in this season.

    16:00, 98′

YELLOW CARD: Southampton 2-3 Liverpool (Stephens)

    By Harry Bamforth

Time has pretty much run out now.

Jack Stephens marks the final minute by taking out Mo Salah
    and getting a yellow card.

    That’s just pure frustration.

    15:59, 97′

    CLOSE! Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Southampton are giving this a real go now as the clock keeps ticking.

The ball is floated into Cameron Archer but he just can’t get
the toe that is needed on the ball to divert it in.

    Agonisingly close.

    15:57, 95′

    CLOSE! Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Was that the moment?

Groans echo around St Mary’s as Jack Stephens sess a header float just over the bar.

Close, but just not close enough.

    15:56, 93′

    Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Southampton need to get a hold of the ball here if they want something.

Time is running out and you can hear the frustration growing in the stands.

I think I heard a shout for ‘lump it up the pitch’.
    Classic.

    15:53

    EIGHT added minutes

    By Harry Bamforth

Squeaky bum time for Liverpool fans.

The board goes up to show that there will be eight minutes of stoppage time in this
    one.

    15:53, 89′

    SUBSTITUTION: Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

It looks as though SArne Slot wants to sure things up.

He brings Wataru Endo on for Darwin Nunez for these closing stages as Liverpool look to hold on.

    They are nearly there.

    15:50, 88′

HIT THE POST! Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Oh, Mo Salah is so unlucky!

The ball drops to him on the far side and
this is the opportunity for the hat-trick, can he put this
    game to bed?

Nope. he sames the ball against the post and it rolls parallel with the line.

    So, so close.

    15:49, 86′

    Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Andy Robertson, what are you doing?

The complacency has crept back in for Liverpool and Robertson takes his eye off the ball as Southampton press.

It’s then sent into the box and Ibrahima Konate has a coming together with Cameron Srcher, but the
referee is having none of the penalty shouts.

    15:47, 85′

    BIG CHANCE! Southampton 2-3 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Mo Salah should wrap it up, but he can’t manage it…

He breaks away, cuts inside and you just think the hat-trick goal is on its way.

But unusually, he blasts the ball miles away from goal, it’s a really poor finish actually.

The Liverpool fans don’t care, though, they are having a party in that corner.

    15:45, 83′

    Goal:Southampton 2-3 Liverpool (Salah pen 83′)

    By Harry Bamforth

    NEVER IN DOUBT!

Mo Salah races up and plants the ball into the top left-hand corner,
just above the hand of Alex McCarthy.

He then legs it over to the Liverpool fans and rips his top off in celebration.

That feels like a huge goal in this title race, Liverpool have turned
    it around.

    15:43, 82′

    PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL!

    By Harry Bamforth

    Oh dear, oh dear…

Just moments after coming on Yukinari Sugawara gifts Liverpool
the opportunity to re-take the lead.

He misjudges Mo Salah’s cross and it hits his arm just yards from goal.

    Mo Salahh will step up…

    15:42, 80′

    Southampton 2-2 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Southampton just can’t get out, Liverpool are all over them
    like a rash.

Bodies are being thrown everywhere in that box just to keep
    Liverpool out, it’s impressive.

How long can they keep this up?

    15:40, 78′

    SUBSTITUTION: Southampton 2-2 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Russel Martin finally makes some changes that aren’t enforced.

Cameron Archer and Yukinari Sugawara are called upon for the final
    quarter of the match.

Adam Armstrong and Ryan Fraser, who has played really well, make way for them.

    15:38, 76′

    Southampton 2-2 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Where is Darwin Nunez?

Every time Liverpool put a ball into the area he is nowhere to be
    seen, it’s just bizarre.

Well, he just loves Darwinning out at this point, he does what
    he wants.

    15:36, 73′

YELLOW CARD: Southampton 2-2 Liverpool (Armstrong)

    By Harry Bamforth

Now that is what you call a nasty challenge.

Adam Armstrong hacks down Virgil van Dijk from behind just outside the area.

He gets shown a yellow card. I think that was one of
those where it’s more of an orange one if it existed.

    15:34, 72′

    Southampton 2-2 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Liverpool are ramping up the pressure here.

Luis Diaz sees an effort blocked and then Conor Bradley can’t finish just moments later.

This is one hell of a match, it really is.

    15:32

    ‘Dibling taking the mickey’

By Riath Al-samarrai At St Mary’s Stadium

Dibling has been very good for Southampton, but he’s taking the mickey with the tiniest
set of shinpads I have ever seen.

    15:31, 68′

    CLOSE! Southampton 2-2 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    What is going on?

It really is carnage at St Mary’s with the rain hammering down. Alex McCarthy first makes
a brilliant stop from Luis Diaz.

But moments later he misjudges a corner with
the ball then being prodded over the bar.

    Crazy goalkeeping.

    15:29, 66′

    Southampton 2-2 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Liverpool seem to have found their groove, their tails are up.

The Reds break again as Mo Salah feeds a charging Dominik Szoboszlai in the area.

His pass is then cleared for a corner and there are
roads from the Reds away end.

    They sense something happening here.

    15:26, 65′

    Goal:Southampton 2-2 Liverpool (Salah 65′)

    By Harry Bamforth

    It’s that man again!

Alex McCarthy has had another stinker as he rushes out of his goal with Mo Salah getting on the end
of a ball over the top.

He misjudged the path of it completely and Salah just nudges the ball past him and into the net.

Game is well and truly back on!

    15:26, 63′

    CLOSE! Southampton 2-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Liverpool should be level!

Darwin Nunez breaks away into the area and the Reds look destined to
    find the equaliser.

Nunez opts to square the ball; for Luis Diaz but the winger gets ahead of it
    somehow.

    A mammoth opportunity wasted.

    15:25, 61′

    SUBSTITUTION: Southampton 2-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Arne Slot has had enough.

Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister enter the action with Liverpool chasing the
    game.

Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo make way.

    15:24, 61′

    PENALTY CLAIM! Southampton 2-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Liverpool are absolutely all over the place,
    I can’t believe what I am watching.

Adam Armstrong wants a penalty after some terrible defending at the
back, as he is wiped out by Caoimhin Kelleher.

    But a free-kick is then given…

Liverpool are lucky there, I thought that was going to be another spot-kick.

    15:22, 59′

    Southampton 2-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Liverpool look stunned…

I mean, they have been the architects of their own downfall and Southampton are deservedly in front.

This is why the Premier League is so brilliant, nobody predicted this,
    did they?

    15:21

    ‘Brilliant from Southampton’

By Lewis Steele At St Mary’s Stadium

That was brilliant from Southampton, who have counter-attacked well all afternoon.
Tyler Dibling, the 18-year-old midfielder, looks
a quality player. But this was a true team move with
great play from Ryan Fraser and Adam Armstrong, too.

And a confident finish to top it off from Mateus Fernandes.
Big test for the league leaders now…

    15:18, 57′

    Goal:Southampton 2-1 Liverpool (Fernandes 57′)

    By Harry Bamforth

Mateus Fernandes takes the roof off St Mary’s!

Tyler Dibling once again is the root of Liverpool’s downfall as he lifts a lovely ball over the top for
    Adam Armstrong.

The striker holds the ball up and then plays in Fernandes to finish brilliantly.

Do we have a shock on the cards?

    15:18, 55′

    Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Ryan Gravenberch is back with his usual tricks.

The midfielder wins the ball high up the pitch before playing a give-and-go with Darwin Nunez.

He closes in on goal and should shoot but decides to pass and
    the chance goes begging.

    15:15, 53′

    Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Tyler Dibling is one hell of a talent.

He dribbles through the Liverpool midfield as if they are not there, it’s just so impressive.

He decides to end his run with a strike from distance but it goes high
    and wide of the mark.

    15:14

    ‘Liverpool need a change’

By Lewis Steele At St Mary’s Stadium

I think it’s time for a substitute or two, Arne Slot. Liverpool are lacking
energy and ideas in the final third, all three of the front trio have been below par
    today.

Luis Diaz would surely inject a bit of something different into
the attack, whether he was playing off the left or down the middle.
In midfield, they have struggled to gain control
    - Alexis Mac Allister would help with that.

    15:13, 52′

    SUBSTITUTION: Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Paul Onuachu has to be helped off by medical staff, he can barely
    walk.

In fact, he requires a stretcher and is carried off before Lesley
    Ugochukwu replaces him.

Oh wait, suddenly he can walk again and there is no stretcher in the
    end – I can’t keep up.

    15:12, 49′

YELLOW CARD: Southampton 1-1 Liverpool (Gakpo)

    By Harry Bamforth

    Another yellow card for Liverpool.

Cody Gakpo stops Paul Onuachu as he looks to break and he gets booked for it.

Immediately, Onuachu signals that he needs to be taken off
which is a huge blow for the hosts.

    He has been excellent.

    15:10, 48′

    Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

This has been a very good start to the second half from
    Liverpool.

Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah link up again with the latter doing his signature cross to the back post.

Andy Robertson is there to pull the ball back but there is no one in the area
    to finish it.

    Deserved more.

    15:07, 46′

    SECOND HALF: Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Right, we are ready to get going again.

Virgil van Dijk has a long conversation with the referee.
He is obviously not over the penalty decision.

He has to stop talking pretty quickly, though, as we are back underway.

    15:03

    ‘Liverpool punished for mistakes’

By Lewis Steele At St Mary’s Stadium

Whether it was a penalty or not, really cheap
from Liverpool to give the ball away in the build-up – second time in two minutes
they had done so and were punished.

    15:01

    Was it a penalty?

    By Harry Bamforth

Right, let’s set this debate underway.

I have had texts from some friends who think the penalty challenge was inside the area, while others have
    said it was out.

I mean, it was so close.

I think you have to go with the referee’s decision there as it was just so hard to tell.

Either way, it was a stupid tackle.

    14:58

    Slot’s sloppy Reds

    By Harry Bamforth

I think that may be the worst half of football we have seen from Liverpool this season.

They are usually so crisp with their passing and the defence has
    been superb this season.

    But not today.

Both Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk have been guilty
of giving the ball away cheaply.

To win titles, you can’t be complacent…

    WATCH: Armstrong levels it up

    By Harry Bamforth

Just listen to that St Mary’s roar.

Southampton had been knocking at the door and got what they deserved in the end.

For a second, I thought Caoimhin Kelleher had got Liverpool out of jail but
Armstrong got that stroke of luck.

Sometimes you just need those things to go your way.

    14:51

    HALF-TIME: Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Honours even at the break.

A chaotic half of football is at its end and Southampton are deservedly
    level against the league leaders.

Adam Armstong’s finish after a missed penalty has
    them well in this match.

    Liverpool have been pretty poor.

    14:49, 48′

    Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Paul Onuachu is making the Liverpool midfield
    look like idiots.

He somehow dances around four or five players before
    setting Southampton on the counter.

The crowd love it and the cheers got louder
with each player he got around.

Great feet from the big man.

    14:47, 46′

    Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Come on, Darwin…

Nunez goes down after a little nudge from Jack Stephens and he
    wants a penalty.

For some reason, he decides to stay down for a minute even though there
    was barely any contact.

Just get on with the game.

    14:46

    SIX added minutes

    By Harry Bamforth

There will be six minutes of stoppage time.

That’s a lot of time but remember we have had a long VAR check
    and an injury.

    14:44, 44′

    CHANCE! Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    What am I watching?

Alex McCarthy gives the ball straight to Cody Gakpo in the area
and the Dutchman looks set to score.

But the keeper is a lucky boy as the Dutchman hesitates and sees his effort blocked.

    Absolute carnage.

    14:42, 42′

    Goal:Southampton 1-1 Liverpool (Armstrong 42′)

    By Harry Bamforth

    Southampton are level!

Adam Armstrong sees his penalty saved by Caoimhin Kerlelher but the ball comes
    back to him.

The Irishman rushes out to thwart him but the Saints man manages
to slide the ball under him.

    Game on!

    14:40, 40′

    PENALTY TO SOUTHAMPTON!

    By Harry Bamforth

Virgil van Dijk, what are you doing?

The Dutchman tries a backheel and gives the ball away and
Tyler Dibling charges toward the penalty area.

Andy Robertson then brings him down and the referee points to
    the spot.

But is it actually outside? Nope, it’s been given.

    14:39, 39′

    Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Ibrahima Konate is not having his best game, that’s for sure.

he gives the ball away and Southampton very nearly pounce as Joe Aribo drives to the byline.

He then pulls the ball back with Adam Armstrong waiting to strike but Virgil van Dijk manages to clear.

    14:38, 37′

    SUBSTITUTION: Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Yep, that’s Adam Lallana done.

The midfielder hobbles off the pitch and is replaced by Joe Aribo after just 37
    minutes.

You have to feel for him, he just keeps getting injured.

    14:37, 36′

    Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Oh dear…

Adam Lallana has gone down holding his hamstring and it looks like his injury woes are
    set to continue.

This bloke just can’t catch a break, can he?

I doubt he will be able to continue against his former side now, what
    a shame.

    14:34

    ‘Not working for Southampton’

By Riath Al-samarrai At St Mary’s Stadium

Inclined to admire a manager who sticks to principles, but
this is just not working for Southampton. Caught out playing from the back countless times already and now it’s 1-0 through that very same
    pattern.

    14:34, 33′

    GREAT SAVE! Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    That is superb, Caomihin Kelleher.

The Liverpool goalkeeper keeps his side in front with a stellar stop down to his right from Flynn Downes.

The Southampton man was looking to make up for his mistake that led to the goal and came oh
    so close to doing so.

A great effort and a great save.

    14:32, 32′

    Southampton 0-1 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

That goal seems to have sparked the hosts into life.

Before the goal they were just being penned back in their own box,
    and eventually, the pressure told.

But now they are playing some decent stuff again as they search for the equaliser.

    A decent response.

    14:29, 30′

    Goal:Southampton 0-1 Liverpool (Szoboszlai 30′)

    By Harry Bamforth

What was I saying about Dominik Szoboszlai again?

The Hungarian makes Southampton pay for some absolutely awful defending.

They try and play it out the back and get it all wrong.
Flynn Downes eventually passes it straight to Szoboslzai who bends it into the
    top corner off the post.

    A lovely finish, but it’s a gift.

    14:28, 28′

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Liverpool are loving the long shots, my word.

They must think Alex McCarthy is weak at stopping them, but that’s all he has
    been doing so far.

This time he gets low to deny Curtis Jones who aims for the near
    p[ost bottom corner.

    A decent stop.

    14:27

    'Southampton are living dangerously'

By Riath Al-samarrai At St Mary's Stadium

Not a huge amount has happened so far, but already a feeling that Southampton are living dangerously. Credit to them - they are brave enough to play risky balls through the Liverpool attack, but Szoboszlai is reading everything and taking the sting out of any move before they can make any progress up the pitch. Given how close Liverpool have come to snatching the ball in those situations, I'm not convinced it is a sensible approach.

    14:27, 27'

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

The chances are starting to come thick and fast for the visitors.

This time it's Cody Gakpo who fancies his chances but yet again Alex McCarthy is there to beat the ball away.

The Reds have real control of this match now.

    14:26, 25'

    CHANCE! Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Dominik Szoboaszlai sees his name in lights as Southampton fail to clear the resulting free-kick and it comes his way.

His connection with the ball is pretty pants though and it's an easy effort for Alex McCarthy to stop.

The Hungarian has not been at his best so far.

    14:24, 24'

YELLOW CARD: Southampton 0-0 Liverpool (Lallana)

    By Harry Bamforth

Oooft, now that is a hefty challenge from Adam Lallana.

He loses the ball and makes a lunge while Ryan Gravenberch goes to meet it but ends up missing the ball completely and taking him out.

You could hear the scream from the Dutchman as he went down, it wasn't nice.

The Saints man gets booked for the challenge.

    14:22

    'Liverpool doing little'

By Lewis Steele At St Mary's Stadium

Just over 20 minutes gone here and this is shaping up to be an interesting game. Liverpool seeing a lot of the ball but doing little with it save for a couple of half-chances for Mo Salah - make that three as I type.

Southampton have played some nice football when they have had the ball - the strike pairing of Paul Onuachu and Adam Armstrong have caused some problems.

    14:22, 21'

    BIG SAVE! Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Oh, that is a massive save from Alex McCarthy to keep the scores level.

Cody Gakpo is having a bit of fun down the left now and once again whips a delightful cross to the back post.

This time it does reach Mo Salah and you expect the net to bulge, but McCarthy rushes out his goal and gets a strong hand to his effort.

That Gakpo and Salah link-up is starting to work.

    14:20, 19'

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Liverpool are trying to calm this atmosphere down by knocking the ball about, and they look much better for it.

Cody Gakpo bends a lovely ball to the back post where Mo Salah is lurking ready to pounce.

But Flynn Downes does brilliantly to get in front of the winger and hook the ball away.

The visitors finally playing some decent stuff.

    14:17, 16'

YELLOW CARD: Southampton 0-0 Liverpool (Konate)

    By Harry Bamforth

Liverpool look miles off it, they are second-best here.

Now Ibrahima Konate is forced to bring down Paul Onuachu on the counter-attack.

Of course, he gets booked for the challenge.

    14:16, 15'

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    That's much better from Liverpool.

Conor Bradley plays a lovely give-and-go with Mo Salah down the right before searching for Darwin Nunez in the middle.

Alex McCarthy launches off his line to beat the ball away before Dominik Szoboszlai blasts the ball so far over the bar that it nearly leaves the stadium.

    14:14, 13'

YELLOW CARD: Southampton 0-0 Liverpool (Bradley)

    By Harry Bamforth

We have our first booking of the day.

Conor Bradley gets roasted by Adam Lallana in his typical fashion and ends up chopping him down.

It doesn't take the referee long to pull the yellow card out.

    14:13, 12'

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Paul Onuachu is showing what he is all about.

The striker has been having a field day in the middle of the park at the moment. He is holding up play really well.

Every time he avoids a challenge there are huge cheers from the crowd.

    14:10, 10'

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Mo Salah is not having the best time of it at the moment.

He first blasts over the bar from close range before a few moments later being called offside.

There are ironic cheers from the home fans who are revelling in his misfortune.

    14:08, 8'

    PENALTY CLAIM! Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Ooooohh...

Ibrahima Konate can consider himself a lucky boy after pulling down Adam Armstrong on the edge of the area.

The Saints forward screams for a penalty and he's got a case but Samuel Barrott says no.

It was a very silly challenge, I must say.

    14:07, 6'

    CHANCE! Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

This is already a pretty open match.

Now it's Liverpool who fly forward in numbers with Dominik Szoboszlai leading the charge.

He slides in Mo Salah, who cuts inside before letting fly and Alex McCarthy palms his effort wide.

    14:06, 5'

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

The first effort of the afternoon comes from the boot of a Southampton player.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis splits open Liverpool with a lovely pass and suddenly Mateus Fernandes is away.

He charges at the defense before letting fly, but it's an easy strike for Caoimhin Kellher to cling to.

    14:03, 3'

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Southampton are already looking shaky at the back...

The Saints try and play out the back and Liverpool are hunting them down like a pack of dogs.

Kyle Walker-Peters nearly gives it away in the area after a poor pass from Alex McCarthy.

He just about manages to clear it for a throw-in.

    14:01, 2'

    Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

Ryan Fraser is indeed playing at left wing-back.

So, he will have Mohamed Salah running at him all afternoon, which is not a position I am jealous of.

Let's see how he gets on, though.

    14:00, 1'

    KICK-OFF: Southampton 0-0 Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

The Southampton fans have a final little sing-song before the players take to their positions.

Huddles have been had by both sides and now it's time to get down to business.

Who will come out on top?

    13:58

    Here come the teams!

    By Harry Bamforth

St Mary's is in fine voice.

The two teams arise from the tunnel to a huge roar and you can hear the away fans in the corner making some noise.

It is so blustery here, Mo Salah will be glad he doesn't have his afro blowing everywhere today. Its conditions could cause chaos.

The speakers have just started playing some techno music and now I am really pumped up.

They will be hoping it has the same effect on the players.

    13:53

    'Hughes in the house'

By Lewis Steele At St Mary's Stadium

Some interesting faces here in the press box at St Mary's. Actress and model Lucy Pinder has been spotted — and she was also seen in the car park with Saints boss Russell Martin. Word has it that the pair are an item.

The Liverpool top brass are here, too, including sporting director Richard Hughes. The former Bournemouth chief looks rather wind-swept — don't we all — and it is interesting that he was criticised in the summer for a lack of transfer activity. With Liverpool potentially eight points clear by the end of the day, there are very few moans now.

    13:50

    Atmosphere building

    By Harry Bamforth

That pre-match buzz has well and truly arrived.

The fans are flocking in as we edge closer and closer to kick-off, although they don't particularly look excited going by the pictures.

Come on guys, look happier than that. A ball hasn't even been kicked yet and they already look sad.

    13:46

    'Conditions will be tricky'

By Riath Al-samarrai At St Mary's Stadium

Judging from the number of long balls being ballooned into touch during the warm-ups, these conditions are going to be tricky today. Blowing dogs off chains, as the saying goes (I think).

    13:42

    Kick-off closing in

    By Harry Bamforth

It's time to get a little excited.

There are now less than 20 minutes until the ball starts rolling at St Mary's.

I adore this part of the build-up as a fan. You have that sense of anticipation. the feeling of both nerves and excitement.

    You can't beat it.

    13:37

    Sorry start from Saints

    By Harry Bamforth

Southampton's return to the Premier League has not started very well, and that's an understatement.

Russell Martin's side have lost nine of their 11 Premier League games this season, only winning one.

Only seven sides in English top-flight history have reached 10 defeats in 12 or fewer matches from the start of a campaign.

All seven went on to be relegated.

Not good omens for the Saints, they need things to turn around quickly.

It's probably not the best time to be facing Liverpool...

    13:32

    A windy one

    By Harry Bamforth

Storm Bert has truly arrived on the south coast.

It is incredibly windy at St Mary's and it just seems to be picking up as kick-off edges closer.

It will be interesting to see how it will affect the match. Maybe we won't see so many long balls or crosses.

As my old man says 'Keep it on the deck'.

    13:29

    Salah to continue hot streak?

    By Harry Bamforth

Mohamed Salah has been an absolute joke this season, hasn't he?

The 'Egyptian King' looks like he is back in his prime as he tears defences apart week after week.

He has scored in four Premier League games on the bounce and has eight in total.

Not only that, but he shares them around as he has provided six assists in the top flight too.

Can he add to those tallies today?

    13:25

    'Suggestions Fraser at left-back'

By Riath Al-samarrai At St Mary's Stadium

We won't know for sure until the teams line up but a few suggestions going around here that Ryan Fraser will be playing at left wing back for Southampton. If so, that places him in direct opposition to Mo Salah.

Russell Martin has gambled throughout the season so far, and good luck to him, but there is a fine line between bold and loopy.

    13:24

Slot: 'We need to be intense'

    By Harry Bamforth

Arne Slot, Liverpool boss, speaking on Sky Sports:

When this week is finished, it's Newcastle away and Everton away. The dropping of points from City doesn't mean much for us, we come here to Southampton to win and we should win.

[The team selection] has nothing to do with the Nottingham Forest
game but it does affect the team and the players
you pick whether they played three or four days ago.
Hopefully, we arrive many times in the box and Darwin [Nunez] is a big threat.

    On Southampton’s threat:

The big difference over here is everyone wants to come here.

Every player and every club. The players at the bottom
of the league can also play for a club like us.
You don’t see that in Holland. We need to be really intense today.

If we are not intense in our pressing, they want to play out
    from the back.

I also showed the players that if the intensity is there then there’s a real chance we
create chances and hopefully we can hurt them. They can definitely hurt us with
    their style of play.

    13:21

    Liverpool’s play-off winner problems

    By Harry Bamforth

I have an absolute belter of a statistic for you here.

Liverpool seem to struggle when it comes to facing promoted teams in the
    Premier League.

Especially the team who won the Championship play-offs…

The Reds have dropped points against last year’s play-off winners in each of their past four away league fixtures against them.

    Simply bonkers, right?

Last season they nearly lost to Luton but Luis Diaz popped up with an emotional last-minute equaliser.

    Will this run continue today?

    13:15

    ‘It won’t be a walloping’

    By Harry Bamforth

Chris Sutton, It’s All Kicking Off! co-host, on BB Sport:

Liverpool could not have wished for a better start under
Arne Slot, whose side are five points clear at the top.
This is a game where everyone is expecting them to easily beat bottom side Southampton, and understandably so.
I am expecting Liverpool to win too, but I don’t think it will
    be an absolute walloping.

    13:13

    ‘Tsimikas out with a knock’

By Lewis Steele At St Mary’s Stadium

Arne Slot has made three changes to the side that beat Aston Villa a fortnight ago, with Alexis Mac
Allister one of those not making the XI after a bit of long-haul travel during
    the international break.

With the Argentine one yellow away from a suspension, that
could be a wise move with Manchester City at Anfield next Sunday.
Kostas Tsimikas misses out on the squad after picking up a knock in training.

    13:09

    Saints searching for a surprise

    By Harry Bamforth

Shocks in this league happen a lot. If you are writing this Southampton side off today, you are being a little silly.

Yes, they have been the worst side in the league and are
playing the best, but that doesn’t mean they can’t win.

That’s what is so great about this sport, right?

It would certainly be a surprise if they do pull it off, though.

They have only beaten Liverpool once in their last 14 Premier League matches against them.

Also, their whole side has scored one less league goal combined than Mohamed Salah’s eight.

It will take a monumental effort to get a win today.

    13:05

    STAT PACK: Southampton vs Liverpool

    By Harry Bamforth

    Guess what?

Yes, it’s Squawka Stat Pack time. I always love reading through this graphic, it gives
    an interesting insight.

The two teams could not have had more differing starts to the
    season even if they tried.

Liverpool score loads and concede little while Southampton do
    exactly the opposite.

So basically, expect some goals today.

    13:02

    Slot hunting more history

    By Harry Bamforth

It feels like every week we talk about Arne Slot potentially
    making more history.

Well, he can do it again today.

If Liverpool get the win, Slot will equal Carlo Ancelotti and Guus Hiddink
by recording 10 Premier League wins as manager in just 12 matches.

It would be the fewest amount of games to reach that number.

    12:56

    Martin: ‘We should be excited’

    By Harry Bamforth

Russell Martin, Southampton boss, speaking on Friday

We showed the guys the table how it looked at this point last season, and how much it changed by the end of
December. It’s such an exciting month. People talk about the difficulty of the
games and the level of competition we face in the next four or five
games, but it’s what we’ve worked so hard for and we should
    be excited about the challenge.

Teams have shown in recent weeks that you can pick up big results
against big teams and good opposition. We’re going to have to at some point if we’re going
to achieve what we want to achieve.

    On Arne Slot:

When you go into a club that’s built on something for so long with top players that have bought into that,
he hasn’t changed too much. It’s the best management at that
point to continue some of the brilliant things they were good at, and put
his own spin on it, which he has done.

    12:51

    Can Bradley deliver?

    By Harry Bamforth

Conor Bradley has his chance to shine once again.

When Trent Alexander-Arnold got injured last season, Bradley came in and shone in that right-back role.

Jurgen Klopp absolutely loved him and the Reds didn’t miss Alexander-Arnold too much during that period.

He needs to deliver once again today while the main man nurses an injury.

I’m sure he will be up for the task at hand.

Southampton Team News – Lallana STARTS

    By Harry Bamforth

    Look who it is.

Former Liverpool man Adam Lallana starts against his former side today, a decade on from leaving the Saints for Merseyside.

However, there will be no Aaron Ramsdale as he is set for a spell on the
    sidelines.

Instead, Alex McCarthy comes in between the sticks.

    12:46

Liverpool Team News – Bradley STARTS

    By Harry Bamforth

    The teams are in!

Arne Slot has made three changes from the side that beat Aston Villa
    before the international break.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is unavailable through injury with Conor
    Bardely coming in for him.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo returns to the starting line-up while Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz drop to the bench.

Harvey Elliott is indeed in the squad.

    Team news coming up

    By Harry Bamforth

    I spy a certain Harvey Elliott…

The Liverpool midfielder has been out with injury since August, but
does this photo indicate his return to the squad?

I reckon it might do, but you never know, he could just be supporting his team-mates today.

We will find out in just a few minutes time –
team news is on its way.

    12:39

Reds to take control of title race?

    By Harry Bamforth

Today is huge for Liverpool, absolutely huge.

Nobody had them in the running for the Premier League title when Arne
    Slot walked through the door.

Well, here they are with the possibility of going eight points
clear at the top in November.

With Manchester City falling at every hurdle, the Reds simply have to take advantage while they can.

Southampton are one of those teams that could provide a banana skin for them if they are not
    at their very best.

But in reality, they should be getting the job done.

If they do, it will become even harder to look past them
winning the whole thing, although there is still a long
    way to go.

A big 90 minutes coming up.

    12:35

    About last night…

    By Harry Bamforth

    I mean, where to start.

Last night we witnessed something that has never happened in the Pep Guardiola era at Manchester City.

The champions were hammered 4-0 by Tottenham at the Etihad, the
club’s worst home defeat since the Spaniard joined in 2016.

It was a simply bonkers evening and broke a whole host of
    records.

The loss was City’s fifth on the bounce and the third in a row
in the Premier League, which had never happened before under Guardiola.

All of a sudden, their hopes of winning a fifth consecutive title are starting to dwindle.

They will be begging Southampton to do them a favour
    today.

In all honesty, I am still shell-shocked
    at what happened.

    12:30

    Reds aim to extend lead

    By Harry Bamforth

    Another day in paradise.

The Premier League did its usual thing by delivering chaos yesterday,
and now it’s time to do it all over again.

After the craziness of Manchester City getting thumped by Tottenham in their own backyard,
Liverpool now have the chance to go eight points clear.

They face a Southampton side that are rock bottom and have won only one match this season.

    What could go wrong, eh?

Well, a lot could. This is the most competitive league we have
had in a long while, so don’t bank on the Reds having
    it easy.

    Personally, I’m just hoping it’s a cracker.

For Andrew Nembhard, it’s an embarrassment of riches.

On any given possession, the Gonzaga point guard can throw the ball down low to Drew Timme, the reigning Karl Malone Award winner as the nation’s
top power forward (and a finalist this season for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Award as the top center) or 7-foot freshman phenom Chet Holmgren, a Malone finalist this year.

If the defense is packed into the lane, there’s Julian Strawther on the wing,
averaging 12.6 points, or backcourt mate Rasir Bolton, who —
like Nembhard — is averaging 10.5.

It’s no wonder the No. 1-ranked Bulldogs (22-2, 11-0 WCC) are
the nation’s top scoring team with 89.9 points a game
entering Saturday’s West Coast Conference matchup with Santa Clara in Spokane, Wash.
Gonzaga can clinch its 10th consecutive regular-season WCC championship with a victory.

Nembhard’s shot wasn’t falling Wednesday — he made just 1 of 8 from the field while scoring just 4 points
    – in Gonzaga’s 86-66 victory at Pepperdine. So, he
dished out a career-high 14 assists while handling a tough defensive assignment against the
Waves’ Houston Mallette, who finished with 25 points.

“That’s what he does, man,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said.
“He’s an unbelievable passer, just a wizard in the ball screens. So we trust him, he’ll make the right read and he was making all the different reads and that’s kind of who he is.”

The 14 assists matched the second-most in Zags
history — Joel Ayayi last season — and was two shy of
the record set by Blake Stepp in 2002.

Nembhard, whose previous high of 13 assists came against Long Beach
State in 2019 while he was still at Florida, said he just tries to stay
    with the basics.

“I think I was just trying to keep it simple of reading the defense, understanding what their coverages were and then just executing the game plan,” Nembhard said.
“I think I did that at a pretty high level. … They were kind of pressuring me with two guys. Just reading the defense and keeping it simple.”

That worked, as Timme scored 19 points and Holmgren added 18 points with 17 rebounds as the Zags
won their 15th consecutive game and are a victory away from their 21st conference regular-season championship in Few’s 23 seasons.

Few pointed out that Nembhard’s command of the game was not unusual for him.

“UCLA and some other huge games,” said Few, referring to Nembhard’s 24 points and six assists in an 83-63 victory over the then-No.
2 Bruins on Nov. 23 in Las Vegas. He also had 22 points and 12 assists against BYU on in a 90-57 rout on Feb.
    5.

“Obviously, you can see how valuable he is to us. Then he was chasing Mallette around who’s a heckuva player and has a ton of freedom and that’s a really, really hard guard.”

Santa Clara (18-9, 8-4) is in third place in the conference after Thursday’s 84-80 victory at Loyola Marymount.

PJ Pipes had a team-high 19 points for the Broncos,
Josip Vrankic added 18 and Keshawn Justice scored 16.

“Our guys kept their poise and composure and made some big free throws and got some stops at the end,” Santa
Clara coach Herb Sendek said, calling it, “A great road victory in a very difficult WCC.”

The Broncos will need an even greater effort Saturday as they have dropped 23 consecutive games against Gonzaga.

In the previous meeting between the schools on Jan. 15
in Santa Clara, the Zags prevailed 115-83 behind Timme’s 32 points on 14-of-18 shooting.

“It’s obviously a short turnaround to get up to Spokane,” Sendek said after Thursday’s game in Los
Angeles. “We’ll regroup and catch our breath.”

Welcome to Ice City: Russia plans to build frozen community 1,000 miles from North
Pole… as race for Arctic minerals heats up

Russia is to build an ultra-modern city on a frozen island deep
inside the Arctic Circle – in the Kremlin’s latest move to back its claim to vast oil and gas reserves under the polar ice cap.

Named Umka, after a popular Soviet polar
bear cub cartoon hero, the initial 5,000 residents will live under
a vast dome to protect themselves from temperatures sinking below minus 30C in winter.

‘This city will be of strategic importance as Russia’s northern outpost,’
said architect Valery Rzhevskiy who has shown its modernistic designs to
    an approving Vladimir Putin.

Extraordinary: The city will cost up to £4 billion and be built on the remote island of Kotelniy, in the Novosibirsk archipelago, some 1,000 miles from the North Pole

Vast: The Umka designs are based on the International Space Station but in comparison is much larger – one mile long and 800 yards wide

Sources say it is likely to house soldiers, border guards and secret service officers,
as well as scientists and explorers, as Moscow gets serious about claiming Arctic mineral riches.

All will enjoy a luxury lifestyle in the cocoon with its own specially regulated temperate climate – including many
facilities to make inhabitants of other cities envious.

‘We aim to have scientific laboratories, houses, but
also parks with attractions, an Aqua complex, hotels and a
cathedral. Naturally there will be schools, kindergartens, recreation zones, a hospital,
and sport facilities are planned, too,’ said Rzhevskiy.

‘We want people who will be living and working here not to realise they are in some closed space with an aggressive Arctic climate outside.’

The extraordinary venture – nicknamed ‘wonder city’ – will be built at
a cost of up to £4 billion on the remote island of
Kotelniy, in the Novosibirsk archipelago , some 1,000 miles from the North Pole, closer than any other Russian city.

Strong winds make it one of the most inhospitable places on the planet,
and even in summer it barely climbs over freezing point.

    barely climbs over freezing point

The Umka designs are based on the International
Space Station, but it is vast by comparison – just short of one mile long and 800
    yards wide.

‘So far it’s the only project in the world with an artificial
climate and integral life support – just like on the space
station. Not only is it a new word in architecture, but in human living too.
We have used aero and space technologies while creating it.’

is it a new word in architecture, but in human living too.

    - Valery Rzhevskiy, architect

Electricity will be supplied by a floating nuclear power station. Food wise, it will be totally self-sufficient with fish and poultry
farms, greenhouses, a wheat processing factory and bakeries.

‘There will not be any rubbish at all, as the city will have two
factories converting all kinds into ashes.’

It will house workers for local mines and oil platforms which should pay the costs of the development, it
    is claimed.

‘This project is designed to work on any surface, even on the Moon if needed,’ said Rzhevskiy, one
    of Russia’s top architects.

The ice city plans – currently with no fixed timetable for opening – comes as all countries with territory touching Arctic waters
are gearing up to make competing demands to the United Nations over underwater mineral
    exploitation rights.

Western countries were stung when in 2007 Russian polar explorer Artur Chilingarov placed his country’s flag in the Arctic seabed in 2007.

‘We must prove the north pole is an extension of the Russian land mass,’ he said
    at the time.

A Canadian think tank this year even warned that ‘an arms race maybe beginning’,
expressing concerns at the risk of conflict.

The U.S., Canada, Norway and Russia have all boosted their naval presence in Arctic waters amid warnings of a Cold War that could literally be cold – except
    perhaps at Umka.

Kit Harington has bravely spoken about surviving alcoholism and depression in a candid interview with

The actor, 34, who achieved worldwide fame with his role as
Jon Snow on Game of Thrones, said he ‘went through some pretty horrible stuff’ in the years since the
fantasy drama series ended in 2019.

Kit, who has been sober for two-and-a-half years following a stint in rehab, revealed that
while he is now ‘very happy’ and ‘content’, he once battled suicidal thoughts.

Kit went on to describe his experience of hitting rock bottom,
that resulted in a stint in rehab at the Privé-Swiss retreat in Connecticut,
    costing £95,000 a month.

When asked by the publication whether he ever contemplated suicide, Kit reportedly
hesitated before saying: ‘The answer is yes. Yes of course.
I went through periods of real depression where I wanted to do all sorts of
    things.’

Kit said he hopes his comments will help others suffering, and
admitted to being very ‘secretive’ about his
    addictions.

‘I will say about my addictions that I kept them very, very
quiet and I was incredibly secretive and incredibly locked up with them,’ he confessed.

Now sober, Kit is relishing fatherhood and his marriage with fellow Game of Thrones actress, Rose
    Leslie, 34.

The couple wed in 2018 and welcomed their first child, a boy,

Kit gave a rare insight into fatherhood in a recent interview with Access Hollywood.

The star admitted he didn’t understand just how
big the journey through fatherhood was until he embarked on it himself.

He said: ‘Everyone goes, “Look, it’s big what you’re about to go through.” You have no way
of knowing that until it happens.’

‘Every day, I wake up and I look after this little human and now we’re part of a unit together.

‘I think the thing that surprises me most about fatherhood is you are now a unit, the three of you, and that’s a whole new dynamic you
    need to find.’

Kit added: ‘I pretty much find every day as he grows and changes, how does
that change you? It’s a beautiful thing, it really is.’

First-time parents: Kit and his actress wife Rose Leslie,
34, confirmed the arrival of their baby boy in February but have
not revealed his name. Pictured in April 2019

Kit and Rose confirmed the arrival of their baby boy in February but have not revealed his name.

The couple have largely stayed out of the public eye since announcing that Rose was pregnant via a photoshoot

They celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary last summer, after tying the knot in June 2018 at Rose’s aristocratic family’s
spectacular 12th-century Wardhill Castle in Aberdeenshire.

Kit will next be seen on screen in season two
of his new series, Modern Love, premiering this week.

The show is a romantic comedy based on the weekly column of the
same name published in The New York Times.

Kit is seen in the trailer playing a hopeless romantic who falls

With both teams missing key players, Jaren Jackson Jr.

a 119-104 victory Monday night over the visiting Dallas Mavericks.

Memphis played without injured starters Desmond Bane and Ja Morant, along with key reserves Santi Aldama and Marcus Smart.
Stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving did not play
for the Mavericks, who have lost five in a row.

Jackson finished with 35 points and 13 rebounds, while
Wells added 17 points and 10 boards. Jackson was 13-of-23 shooting and had five assists,

Dallas was led by P.J. Washington, who had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Naji Marshall scored 16, Klay Thompson had

Grizzlies their first lead at 50-48. Huff’s corner three with 29.2 seconds to go provided the halftime cushion.

Marshall led Dallas in the first half with 13 points and Lively contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

Memphis had a slim halftime lead despite shooting 39.1
percent in the half. A 32-26 rebounding edge, including 20-12 in the second quarter, allowed
the Grizzlies to stay in the game.

The Grizzlies extended their lead to 12 in the third quarter behind Jackson Jr., who had 13 points
in the period. The Grizzlies led 87-80 after three
    quarters.

Dallas reserve Daniel Gafford sprained his left ankle early in the second quarter and did not return.

Players who hit certain triggers, such as excessive lengths of
time spent gambling, are called up and asked
    eight questions.

They include: ‘Do you gamble to escape a boring or unhappy
life?’, ‘Do you feel depressed or even suicidal because of
your gambling?’, ‘Have you lost interest in your family,
friends or hobbies because of your gambling?’
and ‘After losing do you feel you must try and win back your losses as soon as possible?’

The Bet365 training officer said the minimum time-playing threshold used to be six
out of seven days of playing for more than eight hours, but
that the limit ‘changes all the time’. The biggest
trigger is time spent playing, the Mail’s reporter
    was told during our investigation

If punters reply yes to any of the questions, trainee
staff were told their accounts are suspended.

But if they say no, their accounts remain active and they are allowed to carry on playing.

Asked by the Mail’s reporter what measures were in place to prevent customers lying through the simple test, the
    trainer said: ‘There aren’t.’

She then agreed with another trainee when she said: ‘We’ve done our job to check them.’

Length of time spent playing is not the only trigger
    used to identify problem gamblers.

Other triggers include when a customer changes a deposit limit, when they return from self-exclusion, or when their account is suspended for any responsible gambling concern.

Matt Zarb-Cousin, of the Campaign for Fairer Gambling,
said: ‘It’s an inadequate test. Gambling addicts lie and they delude themselves, it’s
all part of the problem. They could easily lie their
way through the test. If a time-playing threshold
is eight hours on six out of seven days then that is too high.
People could spend half that time playing and still have a
    serious problem.’

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for most of New South Wales’

By 5pm three separate thunderstorms came together to form a ‘super-cell’ storm around

Weatherzone meteorologist Lachlan Maher told Daily Mail Australia it was

The starting pistol has officially been fired on London’s supercar season, when wealthy Arabs flee the

After a Mercedes covered in Swarovski crystals was spotted
yesterday, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Maseratis appeared to be pouring onto the
    streets of Knightsbridge today.

The arrival of the supercars has become a regular event in recent years, with rich Kuwaitis, Saudis and Emiratis seeking to out-do each
other over who can own the most souped-up sportscar.

A trio of Ferrari F12s were spotted out in Knightsbridge today, alongside a Lamborghini Aventor, a £1million Pagani Huayra and a modified Porsche 918,
which were seen parked near Hyde Park.

The cars’ Arabs owners traditional ship their machines over in the months leading up to the summer, so that they are here when they arrive in July and August.

But despite their dizzying top speeds, many of the cars rarely get out of the gridlocked London traffic and often spend much

The duo realized in February 2018 that they had
romantic feelings for one another, and they quickly began dating.

A woman who married her high school bully has opened up
about how he ultimately won her heart after tormenting her for months as a
    teen

Lauren Enslow, 20, from Saratoga Springs, Utah, has fallen in love with Lucas
Olsen, 21 – despite the fact that he and his friends relentlessly bullied her when she was
    just 15

Lucas and his pals would mock Lauren by calling her ‘Linda’ – after the
cartoon character from Bob’s Burgers – and he would even take videos
of her at school and share them to his Snapchat

Lucas then proposed to Lauren on top of a mountain in July
2022, and they tied the knot in October of the same year –
the same date that they met six years prior.

And now that they are husband and wife, there’s no hard feelings about the rocky start to their romance, with
Lauren insisting that all has been forgiven.

‘It’s funny that I can call him my high school bully and high school sweetheart,’ Lauren, who works as
a content creator, said recently. ‘I have forgiven him.
I’ll still tease him about it sometimes.’

While Lauren admitted that she ‘hated him’ when they were younger, she said that a
‘soft spot’ developed after they got in touch following her accident.

‘We ended up developing feelings for each other,’ she explained.
‘People say they would never have forgiven him, but I can’t base his personality off who he was for three months when he was 16.’

Lucas added: ‘Looking back now I just think it was silly.

When you are that young you think things like that are funny.
And of course, me and my friends thought it was funny.

‘I never actually thought she looked like that cartoon character, my friends and I were just coming up with characters to compare Lauren and all her friends
to as a joke, that ended up going a little too far.

‘I teased her because in the moment I think it was a mix of [liking] her and because my friends were
doing it as well. Peer pressure in a way.’

But after Lauren got into a car accident in November 2017, Lucas reached out with words of sympathy
for her – sparking a friendship between them that would soon turn into romance

Lucas then proposed to Lauren on top of a mountain in July 2022,
and they tied the knot in October of the same year
    - the same date that they met six years prior

And now that they are husband and wife, there’s no hard feelings about the
rocky start to their romance, with Lauren insisting that all has been forgiven

The pair first met in October 2016, at a mutual friend’s party, and
    they started chatting over Snapchat.

However, Lauren decided she that didn’t want a boyfriend at
the time and ultimately shut him down.

But when she started high school in September 2017, she
and Lucas found each other in the same friend group, and the nonstop teasing soon ensued.

‘It was really awkward for me,’ she said. ‘Him and his friends
started to tease me. He used to call me Linda from Bob’s Burgers and I didn’t like being compared to her at all.

‘Lucas would film me and put it on his Snapchat without me knowing.
At this point, I hated him. I wanted nothing to do with him.’

But things changed after Lucas witnessed Lauren getting
into a car accident in November 2017, alongside her mom Jessica Enslow,
48, and sister, Alyssa Kimber, 28.

‘We were in a parking lot and saw him,’ Lauren recalled.

‘My sister thought it was funny to roll down the window and
    call out his name.

‘Seconds later we were in a car crash. No one was seriously injured by the cars were
    messed up.’

While Lauren admitted that she ‘hated him’ when they
were younger, she said that a ‘soft spot’ developed after they got in touch following her accident

After the accident, the pair ‘started hanging out
and having lots of fun,’ and they eventually started to
    fall for one another

Lauren shared a picture of the banged up car on her Snapchat, and
was surprised when Lucas reached out.

Now, they are happily married and ‘excited’ for what the future holds

‘He asked if I was OK. It showed he cared, it helped me like him again,’
    she added.

After the accident, the pair ‘started hanging out and having lots of fun,’ and
they eventually started to fall for one another. Now,
they are happily married and ‘excited’ for what the future holds.

‘People say they could never marry their high school bully, but for me,
it was mostly teasing, and I got past it,’ Lauren concluded

Lucas added: ‘There was always feelings for her but I think once we both were wanting the same thing,
    life just did it’s thing.

‘I’m a strong believer of everything happens for
a reason and I love that it finally happened.

‘Marrying your high school sweetheart is the most beautiful thing
    I could ever dream for.

‘Lauren is awesome and I couldn’t ask for a better person to experience the rest of my life with.

‘I want a family with Lauren, I’m excited to build a house and watch the rest of
    our dreams come true.’

Surachate Hakparn, seen here in June 2023, is one of Thailand’s most high-profile police officers

Thai police swooped on the home of one of the kingdom’s most high-profile officers on Monday as part
of a series of raids targeting an illegal online gambling network dubbed “Betflix”.

Most forms of betting are illegal in Thailand, with authorities striving recently to shut down the
illicit gambling sites, often foreign-owned, that
    have sprung up.

A sprawling investigation across six provinces saw SWAT teams
raid some 30 locations — including Deputy National Police Chief Surachate Hakparn’s central Bangkok house.

Surachate, well known in Thailand for his regular appearances in the media giving updates on investigations,
denied any involvement in the alleged gambling ring.

“I’m not worried at all, because I’m not involved in this and I can answer any question,” he told reporters outside his home while the raid was under
    way.

Police Major General Trairong Phiwpan said the raids stemmed from a probe into a gambling website
called “Betflix” and 12 subsidiary sites.

Later Monday he told local media that of 23 suspects, 17
had been arrested, including eight police officers.

Officers conducting the raid on Surachate’s house said they were unaware whose
    residence it was.

Known by the nickname “Big Joke” — for his seniority, not his sense of humour
    – Surachate insisted the search warrant for his home was “irregular”
and hinted at rivalries within the force.

“Today I see this as nothing more than internal politics within the police,” he said.

The raid comes only a few days before the selection of a new police chief, with Surachate touted as a possible candidate.

The long-serving officer — nicknamed “the cat with nine lives” — has been linked
to powerful figures in the previous government.

He was appointed by ex-deputy prime minister Prawit Wongsuwan as chief of
the Immigration Bureau in September 2018.

He disappeared in 2019 over unclear reasons, before
then-prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha made him a special adviser on strategy to police in 2021.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who took office last month, told reporters he was
    monitoring the situation.

“There may be the need to set up an independent investigation committee — because this is a big problem,” he said.

“It affects the morale and public impression towards the police.”

Thai police have long been dogged by allegations of endemic corruption.
